Masterworks Theater Company is proud to announce the cast for the first show of their season: The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams. Directed by Christopher Scott, The Glass Menagerie will feature Saundra Santiago ("The Sopranos"), Richard Prioleau (HBO's "A Normal Heart") as Tom, Olivia Washington (Lee Daniels' The Butler), as Laura, and Doug Harris (The Found Dog Ribbon Dance) as Jim. The play will begin May 8 and Open on Thursday, May 14 running through May 30 at the 47th Street Theatre (304 West 47th Street). (more...)

With a decisive battle mounting in the Eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk, Yara Arts Group has chosen to replace its upcoming production of 'Dark Night Bright Stars,' a play based on the friendship of a Ukrainian painter with an African-American actor in 1858, with 'Hitting Bedrock,' a new work based on first-person testimonials of refugees from Donetsk and people stranded there. La MaMa E.T.C. will present the piece February 20 to March 8 in its First Floor Theater 74A East Fourth Street, Manhattan. Virlana Tkacz directs. (more...)

Ben Rimalower's new play about spending beyond his means -- will be performed in rep with his first piece PATTI ISSUES at The Duplex (61 Christopher Street at Seventh Avenue) through April 29. PATTI ISSUES, which ran for a year at the same venue and subsequently toured the country and abroad, explores his obsession with Broadway diva Patti LuPone and his relationship with his troubled gay father. The pieces will be performed on alternating Wednesday nights at 7:00 PM. Both shows are written and performed by Ben Rimalower and directed by Aaron Mark. (more...)

Elia Schneider, formerly of Venezuela, is known for hauntingly visual productions which transcend language with strong imagery and a dreamlike fresco of movement and design. In 'Judgment on a Gray Beach,' her newest work, themes of exile and totalitarianism are explored by a condemned man--he knows not for what--on a beach populated with ten sheepish antiheroes who agree to obey absurd laws and nonsensical orders. Will he escape or return for punishment? La MaMa E.T.C., her theatrical home in New York, will present the work's world premiere March 6 to 15 in its Ellen Stewart Theater, 66 East 4th Street. The show is an adaptation of Dickens' classic with Old World accents and New World inclusiveness. From October 21 to November 8, August Strindberg Repertory will transport Strindberg's 'Miss Julie' to an antebellum Louisiana plantation in a new interpretation conceived by Artistic Director Robert Greer and adapted by Edgar Chisholm from a translation by Greer. The production will include a ballet sequence, which Strindberg specified in the original manuscript and which has never been performed before.
