Recipients of the second annual Tonic Awards were announced tonight at an awards ceremony held at the May Fair Theatre hosted by Dame Jenni Murray. The awards celebrate the achievements of game-changing women in theatre and the performing arts, and significant organisations, projects and productions that redefine the role of women in the performing arts, both on and off stage. The recipients honoured in this evenings event were: Emma de Souza, Clean Break theatre company, Walking the Feminists, The Royal Exchange Theatre Manchester, Steffi Holtz and Gina Abolins, Kully Thiarai, Lyn Gardner, Caryl Churchill and Katie Mitchell.

Fifteen years after its world premiere at McCarter Theatre Center, Crowns is returning. When Yolanda's brother is killed on the streets of Chicago, the shaken teenager is sent to live with her grandmother in South Carolina, where she embarks on a journey toward discovering her place in the world, and in her family. Produced in association with Long Wharf Theatre, Crowns runs March 13 - April 1 in McCarter's Matthews Theatre.

A Noise Within (ANW) presents A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry, directed by Gregg T. Daniel, the sixth production of its 26th season performing February 25 to April 8 (Press Opening March 3). Now added - three performances - Wednesday, March 14 at 7:30 pm, Wednesday March 29 at 7:30 pm, and Sunday, April 8 at 7 pm.

Firehouse Theatre is proud to present the regional premiere of Tim Crouch's play AN OAK TREE. This unique performance experience revolves around a traveling hypnotist who discovers that the volunteer he's called up from the audience for his show is the father of a girl he accidentally killed in a car accident. As Crouch explains, for the grieving father 'nothing now is what it is. It's like he's in a play - but he doesn't know the words or the moves.'

All the world's a stage! Shaina Taub and Laurie Woolery's As You Like It, which was named one of The New York Times' best shows of 2017 after itslauded debut via The Public Theater's Public Works, is now available for worldwide licensing to professional companies from The Musical Company (TMC). The singer/songwriter's acclaimed adaptation of Twelfth Night for Public Works will also be available for worldwide licensing from TMC later this year, after its summer return to the Delacorte Theater.

London Theatre Consortium (LTC) have organised a symposium to address the challenge of the current national curriculum syllabi focusing on representation and diversity in the classroom and improving career pathways into the performing arts. The LTC Creative Learning Symposium; A Future Curriculum for Drama Education will be held on Monday 5th February, 5.30pm - 8.30pm at the Lyric Hammersmith.

Writer and director Nadia Latif has been named the next Genesis Fellow at the Young Vic. Nadia's most recent credits as a director include: Fall of the Kingdom, Rise of the Footsoldier, The Calm (workshop) (RSC); Octagon, but i cd only whisper (Arcola); Homegrown (National Youth Theatre); Even Stillness Breathes Softly Against A Brick Wall (Soho Theatre) and Saved(Drama Centre). The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) announced the line-up today for the 2018 Free Shakespeare in the Park season, continuing a 56-year tradition of free theater in Central Park.

The Donmar Warehouse today announces that Josie Rourke is to step down in 2019, after eight years as Artistic Director, and Executive Producer Kate Pakenham will leave in June 2018. The team were the first female partnership to run a London theatre. During Rourke and Pakenham's tenure the Donmar stage has seen ground-breaking productions, including BAFTA-nominated The Vote, with Dame Judi Dench, which reached over half a million homes on the night of the 2015 General Election; the award-winning Coriolanus with Tom Hiddleston (2013); and the culture-shifting all-female Shakespeare Trilogy starring Harriet Walter, from director Phyllida Lloyd (2012-2016) in London and New York, and on screen.

Last night, December 4, The Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust awarded playwrights Ayad Akhtar and Lucas Hnath with 2017 Steinberg Playwright Awards.
