More good news, Baz Bamingboye reports in the UK Daily Mail that Broadway could indeed be next, writing 'We are actively pursuing and trying to work out the right way to go to New York with Imelda in Gypsy,' said Michael Harrison, who produced the show with David Ian. Producers Michael Harrison and David Ian today announce that Jonathan Kent's 5 star production of Gypsy starring Imelda Staunton has smashed the all time box office record at the Savoy Theatre taking £408,300 for performances ending 25 April 2015. Harrison and Ian said: 'We are thrilled that this amazing record has been achieved in the 1089 seat Savoy Theatre and are delighted that we have been able to extend our run through November this year.' The hit West End production of Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, directed by Sam Mendes, announced today that it has extended its booking period by six months until 1 November 2014. The show had previously been booking until 31 May 2014. The production, which has so far been seen by almost 300,000 people since it began previews in May 2013, is extending its run due to popular demand, releasing almost 400,000 extra tickets. (more...)
