BWW Review: AN IRISH CAROL Serves Up a Pint at Keegan TheatreBWW Review: AN IRISH CAROL Serves Up a Pint at Keegan Theatre
by Keith Tittermary - Dec 20, 2016

Adapting Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol is somewhat of a requirement for established theatre companies. There are many versions of the tale from musicals, CGI movies, radio plays, and irreverent comedies. Playwright (and Keegan Theatre Company Member) Matthew Keenan adds his version to the litany of adaptations and does so with a delightful spin in An Irish Carol. (more...)

BWW Review: Stunning Phillips in Saariaho's Mesmerizing L'AMOUR DE LOIN at the MetBWW Review: Stunning Phillips in Saariaho's Mesmerizing L'AMOUR DE LOIN at the Met
by Richard Sasanow - Dec 19, 2016

On paper, it might seem that Kaija Saariaho's L'AMOUR DE LOIN (LOVE FROM AFAR), libretto by Amin Maalouf, couldn't possibly fill a stage the size of the Met's: three characters and a chorus that bobs in and out of the action. Yet, in action, this breathtaking, shimmering piece not only seems at home--particularly in the able hands of soprano Susanna Phillips and the Met orchestra under the  Finnish conductor Susanna Malkki in Robert Lepage's production--but it's hard to imagine hearing it any other way. BWW Review: Darren Criss Slays in Pantages Stop of HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH TourBWW Review: Darren Criss Slays in Pantages Stop of HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH Tour
by Michael L. Quintos - Nov 15, 2016

In a theatrical touchdown for the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood, stage and screen star Darren Criss has agreed to reprise the notable title role he stepped into last year on Broadway: as Hedwig in the just-launched national tour of the rousing 2014 Tony Award-winning reboot of the glam rock musical HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, which began last month in San Francisco and continues its Los Angeles-area performances through November 27 (Euan Morton assumes the role for the rest of the tour starting November 29 in San Diego). Featuring solid direction from Michael Mayer and dynamic new musical staging from choreographer Spencer Liff, the searingly electric, engagingly hilarious show, at its core, celebrates the triumph of living life as authentic and as tenaciously as possible, no matter the constant obstacles. It's certainly a wonderful message to remind everyone in such uneasy times of late. (more...)
