The critically acclaimed Shakespeare's Globe production of Farinelli and the King, starring three-time Tony Award-winner (Twelfth Night, Jerusalem, Boeing-Boeing) and Academy Award-winner (Bridge of Spies) Mark Rylance, opened last night, December 17, 2017 at Broadway's Belasco Theatre (111 West 44th Street). The production plays a strictly limited engagement for 16 weeks only through Sunday, March 25, 2018. Over the years, Hollywood has rolled out many amazing movies, some of the best ideas coming from the Broadway stage. Sometimes though, Broadway gets inspiration from the big screen. Broadway In Chicago's Summer Concert on Monday drew probably the largest crowd for the event I have seen in several years of attendance (and they were definitely a fired-up bunch). Musical theater fans across Chicago clamored to see Broadway In Chicago's showcase of ten upcoming touring shows (with a bonus appearance from HAMILTON's Chris De'Sean Lee, who co-hosted with usual emcee Janet Davies of ABC7). Here's my take on the highlights of the concert and which touring musicals should top your must-see list for the coming season.
NICK & ZOE Comes to The Fridge Festival

The Arctic Group has commissioned playwright Daniel Talbott (Slipping and Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, America, Kuwait) to write a new short play that will be performed on a double bill with Steve McMahon's Sad Indie Love Song in Series B of their inaugural FRIDGE Festival. The festival runs August 31 - September 10, and Series B will play Thu 8/31 at 9pm, Sun 9/3 at 7pm, Wed 9/6 9pm, and Sat 9/9 at 7pm.
Nine FX Network Series Receive EMMY Nominations in 35 Categories

FX Networks today received 55 Primetime Emmy(R) Award nominations, the most of any basic cable network for the fourth consecutive year. It was also the fourth consecutive year that FX Networks finished in the Top 5 for total nominations for all networks and streaming services.

The smash hit Broadway musical, Waitress is the latest Broadway show to create a craft beer for charity and partner with The Broadway Brews Project. A portion of the proceeds benefits The Adrienne Shelly Foundation, a NY-based charity that supports women in film.
