A new holiday entertainment starring Birdland regulars Hilary Kole, Jim Caruso, pianist Billy Stritch and violinist Aaron Weinstein, will play a limited engagement of 6 performances, Monday, December 20 through Saturday, December 25, with shows at 6pm.

Today, Kay Thompson is remembered largely as the author of the iconic 'Eloise' books and for her picture-stealing turn as the Diana Vreeland-like fashion editor in 'Funny Face'. But the preternaturally talented Thompson was so much more: singer, vocal arranger, nightclub star, radio personality, fashion innovator, sometimes shrewd businesswoman, mentor-and world-classeccentric. It's not shaping up to be a very promising season for alumni of The Carol Burnett Show.  Just like the recently closed Viagra Falls, Kenny Solms' It Must Be Him offers a terrific company of comical pros working hard to inject any mirth possible into ninety minutes of tepid material.

Though Teresa Deevy was arguably the world's most famous female playwright in 1942, the year she completed her class-conscious romance Wife To James Whelan, the new management of Dublin's Abbey Theatre, which had already produced six of her plays, turned it down.  The once-prolific career of the dramatist whose love for theatre began after being diagnosed at age 20 as incurably deaf due to Meniere's disease, skidded to a halt, making her name, at least on this shore, all but forgotten now.

Today, we are taking a look at multi-Tony-nominated Broadway leading lady Sherie Rene Scott and the original cast recording of her (mostly) one-woman show EVERYDAY RAPTURE, currently on Broadway. In addition to being nominated this season for Best Actress, Ms. Scott is also nominated in the Best Book of A Musical category (along with collaborator Dick Scanlan) for this autobiographical musical tracing her conversion from Mormonism to Mermanism (as in Ethel) and detailing her time spent on Broadway from TOMMY until now. From Sally Simpson to the stage version of herself, Sherie Rene Scott can hold an audience‘s attention like few other performers, evident everywhere on this album. But is that enough?

Last night, March 15, the stars came out to celebrate 64 years of Liza Minnelli, who turned 64 on March 12, 2010. Friends such as Parker Posey, Joel Grey and Billy Stritch celebrated with a night of performances honoring Liza, one of theater's all-time greats. Minnelli herself took the stage at the end of the evening.

Probably my favorite recording of my all-time favorite Christmas song, Frank Loesser's 'Baby, It's Cold Outside!', is the barn-burning opener to one of the best Christmas albums out there, Broadway Cares' HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS. While Christmas may be passed, and Valentine's Day just around the corner, it certainly warms the heart a bit to think that the audible affection affected by Alan Cumming and Liza Minnelli on that track spills over into real life, as they happen to be the best of friends. This week we will take a look at Alan Cumming's first solo album, I BOUGHT A BLUE CAR TODAY and Liza's just-released concert film which was recorded at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas late last year, around Christmastime, LIZA'S AT THE PALACE...

She is one of those rare people who is known by first name only. And that's because beginning when she was just 19, Liza (Minnelli) has dazzled audiences around the world and in every medium. This week, her latest work - the DVD/BluRay recording of her Tony-winning show Liza's At the Palace became available.

A rep for Liza Minnelli tells People Magazine that the singer is planning to undergo knee-replacement surgery in the next week. 'Minnelli, who has been dancing on stage she was a teenager, is 63,' the rep says. 'She is expected to make a full recovery.'

Oscar, Tony, Grammy, and Emmy winner Liza Minnelli will release her first-ever Blu-ray disc on February 2. Liza's at the Palace...!, a recording of her big 2009 Tony-winning Broadway show, will also be released on DVD from MPI. For more information visit www.mpihomevideo.com/.
