Jordan Peele to Receive John Schlesinger Britannia Award For Excellence In Directing

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles (BAFTA Los Angeles) is pleased to announce that writer, director, producer Jordan Peele, whose films Us and Get Out have created a new genre of socially-conscious horror, will receive The John Schlesinger Britannia Award for Excellence in Directing. He joins previously announced honorees Jane Fonda, who will receive the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film Presented by Cunard, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who will receive the Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year, Jackie Chan, who will receive the Albert R. Broccoli Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution to Entertainment, and Steve Coogan, who will receive the Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy Presented by Jaguar Land Rover.

Mark Boal to Adapt FALL AND RISE: THE STORY OF 9/11 for ABC

Academy Award®-winning producer and screenwriter Mark Boal, best known for penning the screenplays for “Zero Dark Thirty” and “The Hurt Locker,” released by Lionsgate's Summit Entertainment label, is set to adapt Mitchell Zuckoff's Harper Collins book “Fall and Rise: The Story of 9/11” for ABC. As previously announced, the network is developing a limited series in 2021 inspired by the bestselling book to commemorate and honor the 20th anniversary of the events of September 11. The series will be produced by Lionsgate and 3 Arts Entertainment, and executive produced by Erwin Stoff and Richard Abate of 3 Arts as well as Mitchell Zuckoff. Boal will also executive produce. 

BAM Presents PUNKS, POETS, AND VALLEY GIRLS: WOMEN FILMMAKERS IN 1980s AMERICA

From Wednesday, August 7 through Tuesday, August 20, BAM presents Punks, Poets, and Valley Girls: Women Filmmakers in 1980s America, a 14-day, 27-feature, 10-short series that surveys bold works by female filmmakers in a conservative decade, ranging from studio blockbusters to politically radical underground masterpieces. The series builds on BAM's previous surveys of American women filmmakers.

EarthxFilm announces lineup for EarthxInteractive 2019, the world's largest eco-interactive program, to be held during EarthX, from April 26-28, 2019 at Fair Park in Dallas. The interactive sub-division of the film festival will present over 40 virtual, augmented and mixed reality experiences that employ immersive technology to raise awareness for global environmental issues. This year's theme, 'Water for All,' will showcase ways to sustain clean water for all and protect the world's oceans, rivers and lakes. Attendees will have the opportunity to go on wild, immersive journeys like swimming with sharks, rescuing baby elephants, exploring some of the world's greatest reefs and free diving into the heart of the sea and beyond.

63 Women-Led Projects Receive Total Of $1.5 From 'Made In NY' Women's Film, TV & Theatre Fund

Deputy Mayor Alicia Glen and the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) Acting Commissioner Anne del Castillo today announced the first round of grant recipients of the "Made in NY" Women's Film, TV & Theatre Fund. Funds were awarded to 63 film, TV, theatre and digital media projects made by creative entrepreneurs who identify as women. This is the first round of a $5 million, three-year program funded by MOME and administered by New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA).

Casting is complete for SUMMER SHORTS 2018, produced by Throughline Artists (J.J. Kandel, Producing Artistic Director) at 59E59 Theaters (Val Day, Artistic Director; Brian Beirne, Managing Director). SUMMER SHORTS 2018 begins on July 20 and runs through September 1. Two series featuring three one-act plays in each will play in rotating repertory Tuesday - Friday at 7:15 PM; Saturday & Sunday at 2:15 PM and 7:15 PM. Please note, there are no matinee performances on Saturday, July 21, Sunday, July 22, or Saturday, July 28.

From Wednesday, May 2 through Sunday, May 20, BAMcinématek presents A Different Picture: Women Filmmakers in the New Hollywood Era, 1967—1980. A counter-narrative to the traditional macho mythology of the New Hollywood era, this series seeks to correct a historical wrong. As programmer Jesse Trussell explains, “This series is a redress to the established Easy Riders and Raging Bulls narratives; women from coast to coast radically altering film form, film subject and film power structures.” This series spotlights the prodigious work of female filmmakers in the United States from 1967—1980; films made both inside and outside of the Hollywood system and encompassing a wide array of genres from comedy to drama, art house to exploitation.
