Chicago Humanities Festival Announces Winter 2014 Events

The Chicago Humanities Festival (CHF) announces its Winter 2014 programs: featuring critically acclaimed authors Gary Shteyngart, Karen Russell, and Mohsin Hamid. Kicking off the new year, writer Gary Shteyngart will discuss his just-published memoir Little Failure with Chicago literary star Aleksandar Hemon on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014. Following in February, The New Yorker '20 Under 40' writer and MacArthur Fellow Karen Russell will talk about her latest book Vampires in the Lemon Grove with Time Out Chicago's Laura Pearson on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014. Concluding in March, The New York Times bestselling author Mohsin Hamid will speak about his most recent novel How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia, on Tuesday, March 11, 2014. All events will take place at 6 p.m. at First United Methodist Church at The Chicago Temple (77 W Washington St). Tickets will go on sale to CHF Members Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 10 a.m. and to the public Monday, Dec. 9 at 10 a.m. Visit chicagohumanities.org for more information.

Premium entertainment network EPIX, announced today that it has set Friday, December 6, at 10 PM ET, as the premiere date for the Original Documentary The Improv: 50 Years Behind the Brick Wall. In this one-hour special, narrated by Adam Sandler, the biggest names in stand-up comedy reveal the role the storied comedy club, the Improv, played in their road to stardom. At times poignant, insightful and always funny, the special uses comics' personal stories, home movies, photographs, and archival footage to weave a story fifty years in the making.

Starz Managing Director, Carmi Zlotnik, announced today that STARZ has put into development a new hour-long scripted drama, 'Most Wanted,' from Chris Collins, Ken Fink and Dan Chaon. Set in the Great Plains during the 1970s, 'Most Wanted' traces the rise and demise of a talented and prolific bank robber, Nate Daniels, who finds himself on a collision course with his family and crew as he becomes one of the FBI's Ten Most Wanted.

HBO's GIRLS to Return in January

HBO announced today that the third season of its Emmy-winning series, created and starring Lena Dunham, will premiere on Sunday, Jan. 12 with back-to-back episodes, beginning at 10 p.m. EST. The network's new drama TRUE DETECTIVE, starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, will premiere prior to GIRLS at 9 p.m., according to EW.
