It will be a “Wonderful, Wonderful” evening of music as the immensely popular recording artist Johnny Mathis returns to Segerstrom Center for the Arts for one night only on Saturday, November 8 at 7:30 p.m. in Segerstrom Hall. Celebrating his 58th year in the music industry and a sublime vocalist whose approach to pop music eclipses passing fads and trends, Mathis has performed songs in an incredible variety of styles and categories – from music composed for stage and film to golden era jazz standards and contemporary pop hits – all of which has assured his reputation as one of the most enduring vocalists in music history. Bringing a contemporary variation on the traditional coming of age story, David Roussčve/REALITY comes to Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival with the company's latest dance-theatre work, Stardust, August 6-10. In this 80-minute piece, exceptional performers explore the world of a young, gay, African-American man through arresting choreography; video projections including unanswered text messages sent by the work's protagonist; original music by hip-hop fusion composer d. Sabela grimes; and classic songs interpreted by Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, and Johnny Mathis. Poignant, riveting, and challenging, Stardust depicts a moving portrait of the struggle for love and acceptance. Bay Area Cabaret, devoted to presenting audiences with top performers who expand the definition of cabaret, enters its 11th season this fall with a sparkling lineup at the Fairmont San Francisco's historic Venetian Room. The new season features a star-studded lineup of performers making their Bay Area Cabaret debuts, as well as the return of a few favorites. The season kicks off on Saturday, September 27, 2014 with a tribute to songwriter Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Godspell, Pocahontas, Enchanted, Prince of Egypt), starring Mr. Schwartz, SNL's Ana Gasteyer, Broadway's Liz Callaway and Michael McCorry Rose.
