BWW Reviews: Revealing BREAKING THE CODE at Barrington Stage Co

A rethinking of the 1986 biographical play by Hugh Whitemore about mathematician and computing innovator Alan Turing who was instrumental in solving the Nazi's Enigma Code yet was vilified as a homosexual and chemically castrated before ultimately being pardoned 60 years after his death. A swirling production that is both a puzzle play and a tour-de-force for Mark H. Dold, who plays Turing brilliantly. (more...)

Last night, Barrington Stage Company (BSC), the award-winning theatre in Downtown Pittsfield, MA, under the leadership of Artistic Director Julianne Boyd and Managing Director Tristan Wilson, presented Breaking the Code, Hugh Whitemore's biographical drama of Alan Turing, starring BSC Associate Artist Mark H. Dold. Directed by Joe Calarco, performances of Breaking the Code are from today, July 17 through August 2, with a press opening on Sunday, July 20 at 5pm. Broadwayworld was there for the opening. For the third production in Cortland Repertory Theatre's 43rd annual summer season, the epic, international hit musical 'LES MISERABLES' takes the stage. Based on Victor Hugo's novel, the script of the musical is written by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg, with music by Schonberg and lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer. Performances of CRT's production will run from tonight, July 9 - 26 with evening performances at 7:30. Matinees are available on July 11, 13, 16, 20, and 23 at 2:00 PM. Tickets may be purchased by calling 800-427-6160 or by visiting the CRT Box Office at 24 Port Watson Street in downtown Cortland. Pontine Theatre Receives $4,000 Grant

Thanks to a $4,000 grant from the Lincoln Financial Foundation, Pontine Theatre is presenting a new touring program, 'Isles of Shoals: Eternal Sound of the Sea' at assisted living communities, senior centers and nursing facilities throughout New Hampshire. The Isles of Shoals, an archipelago of nine rocky isles located six miles off the New Hampshire and Maine coast, were announced to the Western world in 1614 by Capt. John Smith, of Pocahontas fame. Over the years since they have served as a base for fishermen working the bountiful waters of the Gulf of Maine, a haven for the occasional pirate, and a summer retreat for artists and the well-to-do. The Windsor Jesters Present RUN FOR YOUR WIFE, 5/16-17 & 23-24

The Windsor Jesters Spring offering of their 63rd continuous season is Ray Cooney's hilarious British farce, "Run For Your Wife". Directed by Rosemarie Beskind of Simsbury, "Run For Your Wife", tells the story of very ordinary taxi driver John Smith, played by Chris Bushey of Bloomfield, who just so happens to have two wives, two homes and two lives. John has successfully kept each wife, Helen Malinka of Glastonbury as Mary Smith and Tracy Arcari Weed of West Hartford as Barbara Smith, from finding out about the other one until he decides to help out an old woman who is getting mugged. The play proves the old adage that no good deed goes unpunished, as Mr. Smith is soon being investigated by two police detectives, Mark O'Donnell of Windsor as Det. Sgt. Troughton and Steve O'Brien of Simsbury as Det. Sgt. Porterhouse. Even though John is eagerly assisted by his upstairs neighbor Stanley Gardner, Bruce Larsen of Glastonbury, it looks like John's secret is going to come out. (more...)
