Displaying Haydn's unfussy optimism, The Creation features some of the most memorable and life-enhancing music ever written. Soloists include soprano Ellie Dehn who sings the parts of Gabriel and Eve. Versatile tenor Thomas Cooley sings Uriel and bass Craig Phillips sings the parts of Raphael and Adam. (more...)

New York, NY - Sir Simon Rattle will conduct The Saint Thomas Choir of Men and Boys and Orchestra of St. Luke's in a special benefit concert to include Gabriel Fauré's Requiem, The Lark Ascending by Ralph Vaughn Williams and Edward Elgar's Serenade for Strings on Sunday, September 18 at 7:00pm. The concert will be the last in a yearlong series of performances that have been offered at St Thomas Church Fifth Avenue in honor of Maestro John Scott who served as Organist and Director of Music for eleven years, and who died unexpectedly in August 2015.  Proceeds from the concert will be used to create a Saint Thomas Choir School scholarship to assist choristers in need which will be established in John Scott's memory. In the opening monologue of For Peter Pan on her 70th Birthday, Ann (Kathleen Chalfant), the eldest of her siblings, reminisces about a part she played as a young woman; the part was Peter Pan; she doesn't know why people laugh when she tells the story, she says; she is the image of Mary Martin, or at least how you might remember Mary Martin to look at 70, strong features, long neck, short cropped blonde hair combed back, warm and cheerful with something intelligent underneath. It is the start of a metaphor that Ruhl returns to again and again, unabashedly mining it for all that it is, in a play that seems to be about everything: life, the death of one's parents, politics, spirituality, and finally about growing up, whatever that might mean. 'The New World Symphony: Dvorak in America' is a puppet and object theater work examining the influence of African-American and Native American music upon the great 19th-century Czech composer Antonin Dvorak (1841-1904). The piece is written and directed by Vit Horejš and performed by Czechoslovak American Marionette Theatre. It traces how Dvorak helped America accept its beautiful multicultural musical traditions by his enthusiasm for African-American and Native American music during his short but influential time in the USA. La MaMa Theatre will present the play's world premiere run March 10 to 27, 2016 in its Ellen Stewart Theatre, 66 East 4th Street (East Village). Composer and Musical Director is saxophonist James Brandon Lewis. (more...)

Czechoslovak-American Marionette Theatre (CAMT) has created 'The New World Symphony: Dvorak in America,' a play chronicling the American years (1892-1895) of Czech composer Antonin Dvorak, during which he produced a flurry of 'American' works. This puppet theater work is rich in classical and original music (played live!) and dramatizes one of the most significant cultural exchanges in American history. GOH Productions and Dvorak-American Heritage Association (DAHA) will present the piece as a work in progress January 30 and 31, 2016 at Bohemian National Hall, 321 East 73rd Street (Upper East Side). This production is preparatory to the play's upcoming world premiere run, which will be presented by La Mama Experimental Theatre, 66 East 4th Street (East Village), six weeks later: from March 10 to 27, 2016 (see more info below). The play is conceived and directed by Vit Horejs. Composer and Musical Director is saxophonist James Brandon Lewis. (more...)
