Writers Theatre to Break Ground on New Theatre Center Next Week

Writers Theatre Artistic Director Michael Halberstam and Executive Director Kathryn M. Lipuma have announced the next phase of development of its new Theatre Center: demolition, groundbreaking and construction. Having raised $25 million of the $31 million base goal for the On to a New Stage fundraising campaign (with plans for an additional $3 million cash reserve), Writers Theatre has hired general contractor W.E. O'Neil to helm the project. Demolition will begin September 2, 2014 and the construction is expected to be completed by early 2016. A groundbreaking ceremony will take place in mid-October 2014, with details forthcoming. (more...)

Bedlam Theatre to Stage THE SEAGULL and SENSE & SENSIBILITY in Rep This Fall

The off-Broadway theatre company, Bedlam, which received critical acclaim and multiple award nominations for its recent productions of Saint Joan and Hamlet, will present the North American Premiere of Anya Reiss' adaptation of The Seagull by Anton Chekhov, and the World Premiere of Kate Hamill's adaptation of Jane Austen's Sense & Sensibility. The Frick Collection today unveiled a plan to enhance and renovate its museum and library to further fulfill founder Henry Clay Frick's long-standing vision to offer public access to its works of art and educational programs. The proposal derives from the Frick's history of architecturally cohesive expansions and alterations. Renoir Stolen Painting Returns to Baltimore Museum After 63 Years

The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) is pleased to announce that Pierre-Auguste Renoir's painting On the Shore of the Seine (c. 1879) has returned to public view in a special exhibition presented March 30 - July 20, 2014. The Renoir Returns reunites the diminutive painting that was stolen 63 years ago with more than 20 artworks from the extraordinary collection of Saidie May. This visionary Baltimore collector purchased the Renoir in 1925, and gave the BMA masterworks by Juan Gris, Paul Klee, Joan Miró, and others that will be featured in the exhibition along with archival documents. The exhibition is generously supported by PNC Foundation. Additional support is provided by Fireman's Fund Insurance Company. (more...)
