Forget the freshly slaughtered lamb that Richard is preparing. Playwright Peter Sinn Nachtrieb's HUNTER GATHERERS is an all-you-can-eat buffet of betrayal, sexual awkwardness, blood, red wine, lust-filled passions, and a blurring of the lines between civilization and primal instincts. The hysterical play is getting its long overdue New York City premiere. Playhouse Creatures Theatre Company keeps the laughs coming with their riotous production of the amusing play. (more...)

PLAYHOUSE CREATURES THEATRE has announced that it will present HUNTER GATHERERS, a black comedy about an annual dinner party that blurs the line between civilized and primal man, March 3 - March 28 at the Duo Theatre, 62 East 4th St. 2nd floor. Written by Peter Sinn Nachtrieb and directed by Eric Tucker (Wall Street Journal's 2014 Director of the year), The production will have its official opening on Saturday, March 7th at 8:00PM. Due to popular demand BEDLAM is adding three more performances of Jane Austen's Sense & Sensibility adapted by Kate Hamill. Sense & Sensibility is currently playing in rep with a production of Anton Chekhov's The Seagull adapted by Anya Reiss now through December 21 at the Sheen Center (18 Bleecker Street, NYC). The added performances for Sense & Sensibility are Sunday, December 7 at 2pm, Tuesday, December 16 at 8pm, and Sunday, December 21 at 2pm. An important display of portraits by Snowdon from the 1950s to the 1990s has opened at the National Portrait Gallery, London, it was announced today, Friday 26 September, 2014. The display includes portraits from his recently announced gift, one of the largest in its history, of 130 original prints to the gallery, of some of his most iconic photographs. Highlights include from 1978 actor Terence Stamp dramatically clothed up to his neck in a cape and Dame Maggie Smith photographed with a cigarette and script in hand rehearsing the title role in Ibsen's Hedda Gabler for Ingmar Bergman in 1970. Writers Theatre Artistic Director Michael Halberstam and Executive Director Kathryn M. Lipuma have announced the next phase of development of its new Theatre Center: demolition, groundbreaking and construction. Having raised $25 million of the $31 million base goal for the On to a New Stage fundraising campaign (with plans for an additional $3 million cash reserve), Writers Theatre has hired general contractor W.E. O'Neil to helm the project. Demolition will begin September 2, 2014 and the construction is expected to be completed by early 2016. A groundbreaking ceremony will take place in mid-October 2014, with details forthcoming. (more...)

The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) is pleased to announce that Pierre-Auguste Renoir's painting On the Shore of the Seine (c. 1879) has returned to public view in a special exhibition presented March 30 - July 20, 2014. The Renoir Returns reunites the diminutive painting that was stolen 63 years ago with more than 20 artworks from the extraordinary collection of Saidie May. This visionary Baltimore collector purchased the Renoir in 1925, and gave the BMA masterworks by Juan Gris, Paul Klee, Joan Mirů, and others that will be featured in the exhibition along with archival documents. The exhibition is generously supported by PNC Foundation. Additional support is provided by Fireman's Fund Insurance Company. (more...)
