New York Stage and Film and Vassar College, this summer celebrating the 30th year of their Powerhouse Theater collaboration, is currently featuring Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner Kyra Sedgwick in Academy Award and Tony Award winner John Patrick Shanley's new play The Danish Widow, which continues through July 27, 2014 at Hallie Flanagan-Davis Powerhouse Theater at Vassar College. Shanley also directs the cast which also includes multitalented Broadway vets Craig Bierko and Matt McGrath, as well as stage and screen actress Annika Boras. Theatrical Outfit to Stage THE SAVANNAH DISPUTATION, 8/21-9/7

Theatrical Outfit begins its Season of Compassion with the dramatic comedy The Savannah Disputation, written by Georgia-born playwright Evan Smith and, he says, inspired by today's politics and his Savannah grandmother. The show will run August 21 - September 7, 2014. The show will feature Alex Bond, Lane Carlock, Shannon Eubanks and Mark Kincaid. This is the 38th season for Theatrical Outfit, the second-oldest professional theater company in Atlanta, and the home of stories that stir the soul. (more...)

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Gives The Minnesota Opera's New Works Initiative a $750,000 Gift

Minnesota Opera has been awarded a three-year, $750,000 gift from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation that will support the upcoming commissions of The Manchurian Candidate, The Shining, and Dinner at Eight. The gift marks both the completion of the first $7 million New Works Initiative (NWI) fundraising campaign and the beginning of a bold new phase of the Initiative, and brings total support of the NWI from the Mellon Foundation to $2 million. The National Theatre has just announced that the Young Vic theatre's hotly-anticipated new production of A Streetcar Named Desire, with Gillian Anderson as Blanche DuBois, will be broadcast live from the Young Vic's London home to The Ridgefield Playhouse (and to cinemas worldwide) on Tuesday, September 16, at 7 p.m. This is the fastest-selling show in the Young Vic's history, and tickets are incredibly scarce, so the opportunity to see it on the wide-screen is not-to-be-missed!
