January's Ruth Easton New Play Series readings at the Playwrights' Center were standing room only, so theater fans will want to reserve their tickets early for February's offering: 'Three Quarter Inches of Sky' by Core Writer Sherry Kramer. The readings are February 5 and 6 at 7 p.m. at the Playwrights' Center, 2301 E. Franklin Avenue in Minneapolis. The readings are free, but reservations are recommended and can be made at pwcenter.org.

As chilly weather settles into Minnesota, local playwright Kira Obolensky has a wintery new musical to share. 'The Overcoat: A Low-Fi Musical' is the first play in the Playwrights' Center's 2017-18 Ruth Easton New Play Series, a long-running series offering Playwrights' Center Core Writers 20 hours of workshop time to develop a new play and giving theater fans a chance to see free public readings of the plays in progress.

On October 15, teens from stage and screen came together at The Green Room 42 to perform a show they created, entitled #WeHaveaVoice. They played to a packed, sold-out house, singing songs with themes relevant to them including dreams and aspirations, belonging, family, and love. Their benefit concert raised over $2,500 for Covenant House, an organization they felt is important, relevant, and in need of their help, especially after the devastating weather that caused damage to seven of their shelters. Victor L. Cahn's Romantic Trapezoid will get its world premiere directed by Alberto Bonilla at Theatre Row's Lion Theatre. The show will begin performances on November 4, and open on November 8, running through November 25, 2017 at Theatre Row's Lion Theatre (410 West 42 Street).

ImprovBoston Welcomes Back The Popular Best of Boston Sketch Comedy

After four years of sold-out showcase sketch shows, ImprovBoston welcomes back the fifth annual Best of Boston Sketch Comedy, a celebration featuring Boston's best-known indie scripted comedy groups. Audiences will see highlights from local sketch troupes Floodward, Friend Club, Hunk House, Klondike 237, Mister Bismuth, Terrible People, Vitamin Snake, The Voices in Our Heads, and World of Hurt at the Best of Boston Sketch Comedy, which runs every Friday on two stages from September 29th through October 13th at ImprovBoston.
