The Gallery Players is proud to open its 43rd Season in September with John Guare's classic The House of Blue Leaves. Directed by Dev Bondarin (Prospect Theatre Company), this 1971 Obie Award winner for best play opens September 12, 2009.

Gorilla Rep will return to free Shakespeare in the park this August, with Julius Caesar, to be performed Fridays & Sundays, from August 7 -30, on the lawn below the New Leaf Café, Parking Area in Ft. Tryon Park. The production, which will be the full, uncut version, is directed by Stephen Fried & is presented to the public for FREE. There will be no intermission, but audiences will be able to leave & rejoin the performance in progress.

The production will be directed by Gorilla Rep Artistic Director, Christopher Carter Sanderson with original music by Andre-Philippe Mistier. There will be no intermission, but audiences will be able to leave & rejoin the performance in progress.

Part of the mission of the Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival is to nurture literary and theatrical talent. We've offered free writing workshops for local high school students that were taught by top-notch professional writers like David Simon from HBO's The Wire and California Poet Laureate Al Young.

Playwrights Horizons will present private readings of MRS. SHARP, a new musical with Book by Kirsten Guenther and Music & Lyrics by Jonathan Larson Grant recipient Ryan Scott Oliver. Directed by three-time Tony Award nominee and Playwrights Horizons alumnus Michael Greif (Grey Gardens, Next to Normal, Rent), the invitation-only readings will take place on Thursday, July 30 and Friday, July 31 at Playwrights Horizons (416 West 42nd Street).

Autumn Fruits are a ripe and tasty treat in the 7th Annual Fresh Fruit Festival. Autumn Fruits, two short plays about growing old in New York, written by Barbara Kahn and Suellen Rubin, will be performed Friday July 24, 2009 at 7:30pm and Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 2:30pm.

SHARP, a new musical (Winner of the Richard Rodgers Award for Staged Readings, administered by the American Academy of Arts and Letters) with Book by Kirsten Guenther and Music & Lyrics by Jonathan Larson Grant recipient Ryan Scott Oliver. Directed by three-time Tony Award nominee and Playwrights Horizons alumnus Michael Greif (Grey Gardens, Next to Normal, Rent), the four invitation-only readings will take place over two days on Thursday, July 30 and Friday, July 31 at Playwrights Horizons (416 West 42nd Street).

Eric Schaeffer, Artistic Director of the Tony Award®-winning Signature Theatre, today announced that Signature Theatre is expanding its American Musical Voices Project (AMVP) for a fourth year with the commission and production of a new musical by Adam Guettel for its 2011-2012 season. Also announced as part of The Next Generation segment of the AMVP were two additional musical commissions awarded to Peter Foley and Marisa Michelson as well as honoree grants given to Chris Miller and Scott Davenport Richards for the development of future musical ideas. Signature, with the support of The Shen Family Foundation, has awarded $595,000 to artists in honors and commissions in the past three years. The American Musical Voices Project is the largest single musical theater commissioning and producing initiative at any non-profit theater in America.

The Gallery Players rounds out its 43rd season with The 13th Annual Black Box New Play Festival and The Peanut Gallery, Park Slope's musical theatre summer adventure camp for kids.

THE ORPHANS' HOME CYCLE, the world premiere of a three part theatrical event by the late Academy Award and Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Horton Foote, will feature a company of 22 actors under the direction of Michael Wilson. The exciting, sweeping work will be co-produced in the 2009-2010 season by Hartford Stage (Michael Wilson, Artistic Director; Michael Stotts, Managing Director) and Signature Theatre Company (James Houghton, Founding Artistic Director; Erika Mallin, Executive Director).

Aurora Theatre Company opens its 18th season, focusing on 'family and fortune,' with Clifford Odets' classic Depression-era drama AWAKE AND SING! Bay Area theater veteran Joy Carlin (Jack Goes Boating, Hysteria, The Price), who first directed this play for Berkeley Repertory Theatre 24 years ago, revisits this landmark drama for Aurora.

New York's OBIE Award-winning Epic TheatreEnsemble (Zak Berkman, Melissa Friedman, Ron Russell, Founding Executive Directors) has announced its 9 th Anniversary Season of new works: the world premiere of Mahida's Extra Key To Heaven by Russell Davis, and the New York Premiere of Passion Play by Sarah Ruhl. Also scheduled is Shakespeare Remix MacBeth a collaboration with Epic's unrivaled After School Shakespeare Program at Chelsea High School.

The Midtown International Theatre Festival (MITF) announces the 2009 Season, running from July 13 - August 2, 2009. 43 plays and musicals have been chosen, as well as three Studio Series shows and five readings.
