Atlantic Theater Company (Neil Pepe, Artistic Director; Jeffory Lawson, Managing Director) is proud to announce the first production of its 2011-2012 season, the U.S. premiere of Simon Stephens' play BLUEBIRD, directed by Gaye Taylor Upchurch. Kate Blumberg (When the Rain Stops Falling), Michael Countryman (The New York Idea), Mara Measor (New York debut), Mary McCann (Body Awareness), Charlotte Parry (The Importance of Being Earnest), Tobias Segal (The Miracle Worker), John Sharian (film The Machinist) and Todd Weeks (The Voysey Inheritance) join Olivier Award winner and Tony Award® nominee Simon Russell Beale (Spamalot) in the U.S premiere of Simon Stephens' BLUEBIRD, directed by Gaye Taylor Upchurch.

Rehana Lew Mirza's play BARRIERS is about a South Asian family's loss from the 9/11 attacks and the backlash they endure, featuring a cast that includes Pooja Kumar (Miss India USA 1995, 'Flavors') and Sunkrish Bala (ABC-TV's 'Notes from the Underbelly') and directed by Colette Robert. BARRIERS is presented by Desipina & Co. in commemoration of the tenth anniversary of the September 11th tragedy and in celebration of the companies tenth season, at HERE Arts Center (145 6th Avenue, enter on Dominick, 1 block south of Spring Street) in Manhattan.

To commemorate the tenth anniversary of the September 11th tragedy, and to celebrate their tenth season Desipina & Co. - a fusion arts company focusing in film and theatre, dedicated to promoting cross-pollinations of artistic, political and cultural dialogues - will present BARRIERS, a play by Rehana Lew Mirza (THE GOOD MUSLIM) about a South Asian family's loss from the 9/11 attacks and the backlash they endure, featuring a cast that includes Pooja Kumar (Miss India USA 1995, 'Flavors') and Sunkrish Bala (ABC-TV's 'Notes from the Underbelly'). Previews of BARRIERS will begin Wednesday, September 7 prior to an official opening date of September 9 at HERE (145 6th Avenue, enter on Dominick, 1 block south of Spring Street) in Manhattan.

The Made At Horse Trade Series will feature two works developed through Horse Trade Theater Group's The Fire This Time Festival, Yusef Miller's Breakfast and Kelley Nicole Girod's Ambrosia, playing as a double feature August 10-29 at The Red Room (85 East 4th Street between 2nd Ave and Bowery), Monday & Wednesday at 8pm and Sundays at 3pm. The Tony Award winning musical, Avenue Q, will welcome two new leads to the cast, the production has announced today. On July 9 Adam Kantor (who made his Broadway debut as Mark Cohen in the closing cast of RENT on Broadway) will join AVENUE Q in the roles of Princeton and Rod. On July 20, Veronica J. Kuehn (last seen on Broadway in MAMMA MIA) will assume the roles of Kate Monster and Lucy the Slut.

Good People, written by David Lindsay-Abaire, today won the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award (NYDCC) for Best Play of the 2010-2011 season. The award for Best Foreign Play play went to Jerusalem, written by Jez Butterworth. The Book of Mormon received the award for Best Musical. The selections were made at the 76th annual voting meeting of the organization today at the offices of Time Out New York in Manhattan.
