Eve, Long, Knight et al. Lead LaBute Benefit Readings for MCC, 6/3 - 6/5

MCC Theater (Robert LuPone, Bernard Telsey, Artistic Directors; William Cantler, Associate Artistic Director; Blake West, Executive Director) announced today that Playwright-in-Residence Neil LaBute's three special benefit staged readings of his previously unseen ‘shorts' series, Filthy Talk for Troubled Times: Scenes of Intolerance, will feature actors Alice Eve, Justin Long and T.R. Knight, with additional cast members to be announced shortly. The readings will take place on Thursday, June 3, Friday, June 4 and Saturday, June 5, 2010, 7:00 p.m., at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street, NYC). Proceeds will benefit MCC Theater's Playwrights' Coalition program, free PlayLab reading series, and literary development activities.

The Geffen Playhouse's 2010 / 2011 season builds on successful relationships with playwrights who have worked at the Geffen Playhouse in the past - Jane Anderson, Hershey Felder and Neil LaBute, and welcomes the newer voices of Pulitzer Prize winners Tracy Letts and Lynn Nottage. The first season in the newly named Gil Cates Theater, this collection of plays tackles often polarizing issues ranging from faith to war to sex. The season opens with Lynn Nottage's multi-award winning drama Ruined, continues with the crowd pleaser Hershey Felder in Maestro: The Art of Leonard Bernstein, then kicks off the new year with the world premiere of Neil LaBute's The Break of Noon, followed by the world premiere of Jane Anderson's The Escort (a Geffen Playhouse commission), and concludes with the West coast premiere of Tracy Lett's Superior Donuts.

Barefoot Theatre Company will present the closing event of the 70/70 Project, a yearlong, worldwide festival showcasing 70 plays by the soon-to-be 71-year-old playwright. The celebration features a reading of Unexpected Tenderness, one of Horovitz's most personal plays, live music, a surprise guest host and more. This special evening will take place at the Bleecker Street Theatre (45 Bleecker between Lafayette and Mott streets) on Wednesday, March 31st, 2010. Cocktail hour is at 7pm; curtain rises at 8. Tickets are $25 per person.

The Tony Award-winning Oregon Shakespeare Festival will celebrate its 75th anniversary this season, and while patrons will notice celebratory signs and banners as well as opportunities to sit in on historical lectures and talks throughout the season, the primary celebration is onstage. OSF has promised its audiences, to whom it has dedicated this milestone season that it will continue to focus energies on producing great plays this year.
