Sheldon Best, Sun Mee Chomet, Lizan Mitchell & More to Lead LCT3's 'BROWNSVILLE SONG'

Sheldon Best, Sun Mee Chomet, Lizan Mitchell, Chris Myers and Taliyah Whitaker will comprise the cast of the upcoming LCT3/Lincoln Center Theater New York premiere production of brownsville song (b-side for tray), a new play by Kimber Lee. The production, to be directed by Patricia McGregor, will begin performances Saturday, October 4, running for six weeks only through Sunday, November 16 at the Claire Tow Theater (150 West 65 Street). PlayCo Presents the US Premiere of Toshiki Okada's 'THE SONIC LIFE OF A GIANT TORTOISE', Now thru 6/29

The Play Company (PlayCo), led by Founding Producer Kate Loewald and Executive Producer Lauren Weigel, is unique in its commitment to producing plays from around the world, including the U.S., to advance a dynamic, international experience of contemporary theater as part of the American repertoire. They conclude their 2013-14 season with the U.S. premiere of The Sonic Life of a Giant Tortoise: youth is not the only thing that's sonic, which reunites them with award-winning Japanese writer Toshiki Okada, director Dan Rothenberg (Pig Iron), and translator Aya Ogawa, following their collaboration on Okada's critically lauded Enjoy in 2010. The new production will run today, May 24 - June 29 at Jack in Brooklyn. (more...)

Ripe Time to Bring Gertrude Stein's THE WORLD IS ROUND to the Stage, 4/17-30

Ripe Time, the Brooklyn-based company led by Rachel Dickstein, has garnered acclaim for creating physically charged, visually powerful adaptations of classic and contemporary stories by authors raging from Edith Wharton to Jhumpa Lahiri. Conceived, written and directed by Dickstein, the play The World is Round epitomizes the company's work, creating from Gertrude Stein's book a fable (for grownups and mature children) full of original, live music by Heather Christian and aerial movement choreographed by Nicki Miller. Ripe Time's first new show since its celebrated Mrs. Dalloway adaptation Septimus and Clarissa (2011), The World is Round makes its world premiere April 17 - 30 at BAM Fisher (Fishman Space, 321 Ashland Place, Brooklyn). Signature's THE DANCE AND THE RAILROAD to Play China in May

Following the end of its run on March 24th at The Pershing Square Signature Center, Signature Theatre's critically acclaimed production of David Henry Hwang's play THE DANCE AND THE RAILROAD, directed by May Adrales, will play a limited run at The Inaugural Wuzhen Theatre Festival in Wuzhen, China, May 9-12, 2013. The entire production, featuring Ruy Iskandar as Ma and Yuekun Wu as Lone, will make the transfer. This marks the first time that a play by David Henry Hwang has been performed in mainland China.
