Following a successful launch at the New York Musical Theater Festival (NYMF) in 2010, Artists WithOut Limits (AWOL) Theatre Project, Inc. announces the second annual presentation of 8Minute Musicals, a program that challenges emerging musical theatre writers and composers to create 8 original 8-minute musicals in just two weeks. An impressive collection of theatrical talents are strategically placed into teams and given a common theme as inspiration for their work. The freshly-inked pieces are fully staged, briefly rehearsed, then presented to the public on Monday, March 14 at the TBG Theatre.

Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) rings in the New Year with William Shakespeare's romantic comedy As You Like It, staged by CST's Associate Artistic Director Gary Griffin. The acting company for Griffin's lush production includes a host of Chicago Shakespeare favorites who have collectively performed over 100 roles at CST. Among the returning cast members are Kate Fry, performing the role of Rosalind in her seventh appearance at CST; Chaon Cross as Celia in her sixth CST appearance; Matt Schwader as Orlando in his ninth appearance; Phillip James Brannon as Touchstone in his fourth appearance; and longtime collaborators Ross Lehman as Jaques and Kevin Gudahl as Duke Senior, who return to CST to perform their respective 13th and 27th roles. Chicago Shakespeare Theater's As You Like It runs now through March 6, 2011, in CST's Courtyard Theater. Tickets are $44-$75 with special discounts available for groups of 10 or more. The Beautiful Soup Theater Collective is presenting 'Crossing Brooklyn,' with music by Larson Award-winner Jenny Giering (Alice Unwrapped, Saint-Ex, The Mistress Cycles) and Book and Lyrics by Kleban Award-winner Laura Harrington (N Bonaparte, Resurrection, Alice Unwrapped). Set in New York City in 2002, 'Crossing Brooklyn' tells the story of Des and AJ, young, idealistic public school teachers bent on changing the world, one kid at a time. Life is full of promise and endless possibility until Des begins to unravel under the weight of her fears, ignited that fateful September day. Splitting apart under the strain, Des and AJ struggle to find their way back to each other. This innovative production will use original multimedia film pieces by filmmaker Brian Oh (Deeproot Films) to help tell Des' and AJ's stories.

Mary Testa, most recently seen as General Cartwright in the Broadway revival of Guys and Dolls, will host an evening of new Voices, featuring the talents of Julia Burrows, Brian Golub, Ashley McKay, Barry Shafrin and Shaina Taub. Show time is 7 PM.

Saint-Ex, a musical inspired by the life of author/aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (The Little Prince), has won the fourth annual Weston Playhouse New Musical Award, announced Weston Producing Director Steve Stettler.

PREMIERES (Paulette Haupt, Artistic Director/Producer), in association with Primary Stages (Casey Childs, Founder & Executive Producer; Andrew Leynse, Artistic Director; Elliot Fox, Managing Director) has announced a special 4-week celebration of events including Inner Voices: Solo Musicals, with the premieres of two one-act solo musicals: Mosaic with Book & Lyrics by Cheri Steinkellner and Music & Lyrics by Georgia Stitt, and Whida Peru: Resurrection Tangle with Book & Lyrics by David Simpatico and Music by Josh Schmidt.
