Empire State Building to be lit in honor of New York City Ballet's 75th anniversary on October 11.

Growing up with the New York City Ballet (NYCB)nearby during my high school and college years (as they had their summer residency at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs), I was thrilled to turn around many years later to see the Kennedy Center present an evening of some of the New York City Ballet’s most beloved ballets.

The Martha Graham Dance Company opened their season at The Joyce Theater on Tuesday evening with Program A. Dance enthusiasts and many more now have the opportunity to experience the Company performances that present Graham’s treasured classics along with stunning new choreographies. 

Martha Graham Dance Company is now on stage as part of the City Center Dance Festival. We attended the production of their Program A that will also be presented on Saturday evening, April 9th.

With Women in Theatre Through the Decades, we will be highlighting the vital role that women have played in theatre history, showcasing those who paved the way and who continue to make history today. This week, we are highlighting the accomplishments of women in theatre throughout the 1960s and the 1970s!

This new collection of over 40 sites celebrates the many LGBT individuals who have contributed their talents to New York City's theater history -- whether as a star with name in flashing lights on the marquee, or a member of the chorus line.

A sculptor of bodies and painter of gestures, Graham contrasted sharp angles with fluid movements and molded her dancers into statuesque and broken shapes, more akin to Pablo Picasso's repositioning of beauty standards and body parts than her dance peers' styles. Never before or after Graham have knees been so enchanting. To encounter the work of Martha Graham is to understand the capacity of the human form in motion and appreciate the splendor of every sinew.

At the elegant Soroya Theatre in Northridge, CA, Martha Graham's Dance Company, under Artistic Director Janet Eilber's seasoned guidance, performed a most incredible group of works.  Some were originally created approximately 80 years ago, by Martha Graham, a true icon in the Dance world.  The EVE Project, as this evening, March 2nd, 2019 was entitled, gave us a wide variety of themes within a theme, that being Women and their significance, their power, their passion and their strength.  It was polished to perfection, and each piece carried many meanings and concepts and was just so beautifully performed and articulated. The Martha Graham Dance Company is the oldest contemporary dance company in the United States, founded in 1926.  Since it's inception it has explored and encompassed political and humanitarian issues, as well as affairs of the heart and human interactions, while creating a prolific dance technique that is unequaled in it's scope.  Graham created a total of 181 ballets during her long career, and is recognized as a primal artistic force of the 20th century, being named in 1998 as 'Dancer of the Century' in Time magazine, and labeled one of the female 'Icons of the Century' by People Magazine.

The fourth annual 'American Dance Platform' is now on stage at The Joyce from January 3-7 2019. The performances feature six of our nation's captivating companies in three inspired, shared programs.

According to Variety, Broadway stage manager Anne Sullivan passed away from cancer on October 28, 2012. She was 81.

American Ballet Theatre's 2012 Fall season at New York City Center opens Tuesday evening, October 16 for seven performances including the World Premiere of a new work by Alexei Ratmansky, a revival and repertory, October 16-20. Principal Dancers for the New York City Center engagement include Roberto Bolle, Herman Cornejo, Marcelo Gomes, Julie Kent, Veronika Part, Xiomara Reyes, Polina Semionova and Cory Stearns.

For the first time In Russia, at the Diana Vishneva Gala Performance, a Martha Graham piece will be performed. On June 23 at the Mariinsky Theatre, Diana Vishneva and Martha Graham Dance Company member Benjamin Robert Schultz will perform the Graham classic masterpiece Errand into the Maze. ?

Northrop Dance at the University of Minnesota brings the 50th anniversary production of Clytemnestra from the Martha Graham Dance Company. Demonstrating Graham's pioneering approach to time and space on stage, the psychodrama is deemed a masterpiece of 20th Century American modernism.
