New York Cabaret Community Honors Actor/Director/Photographer RUSS WEATHERFORD With All-Star Show at Metropolitan Room.

The 13th Street Rep has  presented  its 'Lisa Lambert Award'--named after the Tony Award-winning co-creator of the musical comedy 'The Drowsy Chaperone,' and honoring an outstanding woman in theater--to actress Maite Uzal.  Currently appearing in the musical 'Mad About the Boy,' Uzal is a resident member of both the New York-based  Rebel Theater Company and of Chip Deffaa's repertory company at the 13th Street Theater.  

Frank DiLella, who usually is interviewing celebrities on NY1 joined Jamie deRoy and Peter LeDonne on radio station 970 AM this week. For a while I was wondering who was going to be interviewing whom, but  the conversation created a great radio show. Having these three theatre authorities in the same studio made for a enlivened and informative hour of talk radio as they discussed the upcoming Tony Awards. On Saturday May 9, the Cutting Room was the scene of the SinatraThon - billed as "day long (14 hour) marathon celebration of the Man and his Music." Check out photos from the show below!

Just because the English developed the first operational Radar system doesn't mean that the actor/singer Giselle Wolf who has a home in London should be under it. There was a celebration last night as this wonderfully unique cabaret performer stepped out from under the radar and became visible to a jam-packed Metropolitan Room. Benjamin Grier--currently co-starring in, and serving as dance captain for Chip Deffaa's musical comedy 'Mad About the Boy' at the 13th Street Repertory Theater--has won the theater's 'Matthew Nardozzi Award,' which recognizes professionalism, a strong work ethic,  and reliability, as well as talent. Nardozzi flew up from Florida to present Grier with the honor.  ASCAP  Award-winner Deffaa, the theater's most widely produced playwright, emceed the award ceremony, the first of several award ceremonies to be held at the theater this year.  

Just last month, Judith Light and Jessie Mueller announced the nominations for the 60th Annual Drama Desk Awards, with productions like Hamilton, An American in Paris, and Something Rotten! leading the pack. Artistic director/choreographer Randy Skinner directed a cast of hand-picked young vocalists/dancers -- Darien Crago, Danny Gardner, Drew Humphrey, Kristie Kerwin, Con O'Shea-Creal and Kristen Beth Williams -- who were joined by veterans Sandy Duncan and Don Correia as special guests and Broadwayworld was there. This Sunday's guest on Backstage with Peter LeDonne was Broadway star Ben Vereen.  Talking is something Ben Vereen does a lot since the lecture circuit has become an integral part of Ben's career. He has become one of the Nation's most requested speakers among audiences of all ages. His strong sense of social consciousness has enabled him to reach out to his audiences and convey to them a deep feeling of understanding. His topics range from overcoming adversity, arts in education, Black history, motivational topics, recovery through physical and occupational therapy and the importance of continuing education - to name a few.

William Ivey Long the Tony Award winning costume designer visited the 970 AM radio studios dressed handsomely in a very traditional sport jacket shirt and tie.  He then had a spirited conversation with Peter LeDonne and Jamie deRoy about costumes, Broadway, movies, plus of all things, the spirits he serves up in his two establishments on 2nd Avenue in New York City.  In addition to his life in the theatre and his 14 Tony nominations, William is also the proprietor of Ninth Ward and Shoolbred's, both on 2nd Avenue. Besides being a genius with clothes William was an excellent conversationalist, and it was suggested that it was his other life as a saloonkeeper that made him such a great guest on Backstage with Peter LeDonne.
