The 2016 season of New York City Center's Tony-honored Encores!series will open with Cabin in the Sky on February 10–14, 2016, followed by 1776 and Do I Hear a Waltz?. Jack Viertel is the artistic director of Encores!; Rob Berman is its music director.

Jujamcyn Theaters and True Colors Theatre Company just presented the 7th Annual August Wilson Monologue Competition at the August Wilson Theatre (245 West 52nd Street). The event, which is free and open to the public, features high school students from Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburgh, Portland and Seattle performing monologues by the late, legendary American playwright. Arlene Shuler, President & CEO of New York City Center, today announced the appointment of Stanford Makishi to the newly created senior position of Vice President of Programming. Beginning in January 2015, Makishi will oversee City Center's artistic planning and work toward expanding its performance season.

At the time of its closing, After Midnight will have run 8 months, with 19 preview performances and 272 regular performances. Rachel Jett, Artistic Director of the National Theater Institute at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center has named director, playwright, and book writer Jonathan Bernstein as the artistic head of the Institute's new program, the National Music Theater Institute (NMTI).

Patti LaBelle, who is currently guest starring in AFTER MIDNIGHT on Broadway, told ABC News Radio that she has a few connections up her sleeve that she hopes will save the show before its planned closing (and her final performance) on June 29th. And she says she's not beyond begging; the show is worth it to her.

According to The New York Times, City Center has set the 2015 Encores! 2015, which will open with George and Ira Gershwin's first complete musical, LADY, BE GOOD,. Performances are slated to begin on Feb. 4, and run through Feb. 8.
