BWW Reviews: RACE Gets Under the SkinBWW Reviews: RACE Gets Under the Skin
by Elizabeth Peterson-Vita - Apr 15, 2014

Race, David Mamet's incendiary exploration of truth and lies provoked by racial identity and expectation, has just completed its first week at Trustus Side Door Theatre, in collaboration with the NiA Company. Happily for Columbia audiences, it runs for another week, allowing continued opportunity for this production to provoke and bestir. Staged here in the small, spare environment of a black box theatre, Race is a decidedly adult drama underscored by barbed wit and suspense, and its enforced intimate setting creates a hothouse urgency that literally does not allow one to look away. Attention, as has been famously said in other theatre contexts, must be paid. (more...)

BWW Reviews: Riveting RACE Raises Important Questions at Ocean State Theatre CompanyBWW Reviews: Riveting RACE Raises Important Questions at Ocean State Theatre Company
by Robert Barossi - Mar 31, 2013

Modern-day questions of race are examined with unflinching honesty in David Mamet's play Race, now playing at Ocean State Theatre Company. Mamet, one of the most prolific writers working today, has written numerous plays, screenplays and television shows. He is known for, among other things, his fast-paced, rapid-fire dialogue and his talent for stripping away the layers of politeness and political correctness to get down to the dirty, brutal truth beneath the surface. Race doesn't just get under the skin of our society's racial issues, it gets into the very marrow of the bone. (more...)
