Garrett + Moulton Presents THE LUMINOUS EDGE, Now thru 9/20

Award-winning choreographers Janice Garrett and Charles Moulton will present the premiere ofThe Luminous Edge, a new evening-length dance theater work that explores themes of transcendence, hope and rebirth. The deeply expressive and theatrical work will feature six Garrett + Moulton dance soloists and an ensemble of 18 additional dancers who will serve as a 'movement choir'-a theatrical form used by Garrett and Moulton in their 2009 and 2011 productions, The Illustrated Book of Invisible Stories and The Experience of Flight in Dreams. Performances of The Luminous Edge will be given Thursday-Saturday, today, September 18-20, at 8 PM and Sunday, September 21, at 3 PM and the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater is located at 701 Mission Street.

Flyaway Productions Premieres MULTIPLE MARY AND INVISIBLE JANE Tonight

The recent recipient of two Isadora Duncan Dance Awards, Flyaway Productions has announced the world premiere of Multiple Mary and Invisible Jane, an aerial dance about the experience of older homeless women created by choreographer Jo Kreiter in collaboration with award-winning composer Pamela Z and journalist Rose Aguilar. Multiple Mary and Invisible Jane opens tonight, September 12, 2014 and runs through Saturday, September 20.

In the world premiere of The Imperfect is Our Paradise, choreographer Liss Fain creates a new environmental work with longtime collaboratorsMatthew Antaky, set design; Mary Domenico, costume design; Dan Wool, sound design; andFrederic Boulay, projection design. Using spoken text from Faulkner's 1929 masterpiece, The Sound and the Fury, the company explores the technique of stream of consciousness as a source of inspiration. The Imperfect is Our Paradise runs this weekend, September 11-14, 2014 at ODC Theater in San Francisco.

Green-Wood Historic Fund to Host Isadora Duncan Tribute, 5/31

The Green-Wood Historic Fund will host a tribute to Isadora Duncan, one of the most innovative and exciting figures of 20th-century dance, as Catherine Gallant and her dance company (Catherine Gallant/DANCE) perform some of Duncan's most memorable works. Performed against Green-Wood's serene landscape will be Duncan's mournful "Grande Marche" (1914) set to the music of Schubert, as well as late-period dances evoking sorrow, hope, and rebirth set to Chopin. The performance will conclude with dances of exuberance and light.
