Oregon Ballet Theatre announced last night during Pink Martini's concert at the Oregon Zoo that Nicolo Fonte's world premiere in the upcoming OBT 25 program will feature Portland's favorite "little orchestra" sharing the stage with the dancers in the first ever full-scale collaboration between the two groups. The ballet, titled Everywhere, was inspired by Fonte's eagerness to create an unforgettable experience for the audience that will reveal new facets of both groups and the performers in them. In celebration of the Ballet's 25th Anniversary Season, this entirely new creation will feature China Forbes, who has been the lead singer for the band since its inception. Opening Saturday, October 11, 2014 at the Keller Auditorium, OBT 25 will continue for five performances through October 18.

Pacific Northwest Ballet sweeps onstage and into a spectacular new season arrayed in emerald green, ruby red, and luminous white. A triple-treat for both eyes and ears, the trio of gems in George Balanchine'sJewels pay tribute to golden ages of music and dance: Emeralds' graceful clouds of tulle whisper French fashion and fragrance; Rubies' jazzy, sassy merger with Stravinsky mirrors the carefree candor of America; and Diamonds' glittering splendor recalls the great choreographer's heritage, so that 'if the entire Imperial Russian inheritance of ballet were lost, Diamonds would still tell us of its essence' (Mary Clarke and Clement Crisp). The Los Angeles Philharmonic Replaces Previous Multimedia Presentation with Edgard Varèse's AMERIQUES, 11/6-9

The Los Angeles Philharmonic's multimedia presentation of Edgard Varese's Ameriques, will replace the previously announced presentation of Berlioz' Romeo & Juliet at Walt Disney Concert Hall, November 6, 7 and 9. The Berlioz presentation was to have featured a newly-commissioned video by Refik Anadol to accompany a complete performance led by LA Phil Conductor Laureate Esa-Pekka Salonen, however, technical elements relating to the production have required its postponement. Varese's Ameriques, conducted by Salonen, will feature a new video created by Anadol for the piece. The new program explores the works of European composers, such as Igor Stravinsky and Edgard Varese, who emigrated to the U.S. during the turbulent years of the early 20th century, and how their "new world" inspired them.

Billy Childs to Open Segerstrom Center's 2014-15 Jazz Season, 10/17

When composer/arranger/pianist Billy Childs was introduced to the music of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame singer-songwriter Laura Nyro at the age of 11, he was left with a powerful and lasting impression of Nyro's unique blend of Broadway-inspired melodies, jazz improvisations and socially conscious lyrics. Childs returned to that early experience for his latest project, creating and orchestrating his newest album, Map to the Treasure: Reimagining Laura Nyro. Orange County jazz fans will have the opportunity to hear Childs' loving homage to the late great Nyro at Segerstrom Center for the Arts on Friday, October 17 at 8 p.m. in the Rene?e and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall.

From September 4-14, 2014, Houston Ballet launches its 45th season with the company premiere of John Neumeier's three-act ballet A Midsummer Night's Dream. The ballet is based on Shakespeare's lighthearted play of the same name and follows the hijinks and hilarity that ensues when a well-intentioned plan with a love potion goes awry. Created in 1977, A Midsummer Night's Dream has served as Mr. Neumeier's calling card, being seen as one of his most joyous and popular creations. Houston Ballet is the first American ballet company to perform the famous work and it is the first piece by Mr. Neumeier to enter the Houston Ballet repertoire.
