[title of show] is an interesting new musical that chronicles the very creation of the show itself, and then documents the rocky road it takes on its journey to Broadway. The musical was initially conceived as a writer's exercise by Jeff Bowen and Hunter Bell, who used a 3 week deadline for a festival contest as motivation. But, somewhere along the line the play began to take on a life of its own. The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis is presenting a wonderfully clever production of this work that's greatly aided by a superb cast and sharp direction. (more...)

Hunter Bell and Jeff Bowen Talk Success of [title of show]

In 2004, Hunter Bell and Jeff Bowen created an autobiographical musical by the name of [title of show] as an entry for the New York Musical Theater Festival. The production had a ran off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theatre in 2006, followed by a brief stint on Broadway in 2008. The show is a love letter to musical theatre, and tells the story of two friends who decide to write an original work for a musical theatre competition despite a pressing deadline. (more...)
