Nominees for the 2014 LA STAGE Alliance Ovation Awards were announced on the evening of Monday, September 22 at Native Voices at the Autry National Center in Los Angeles. The nominations were revealed by past Ovation Award recipients Gigi Bermingham, Brighid Fleming, Parmer Fuller, Jennifer Haley, Brian Kite, Glynn Turman, and John Zalewski, along with LA STAGE Alliance Chief Executive Officer Terence McFarland. To borrow a tagline from the long-running reality TV series 'The Real World,' the wickedly amusing GOD OF CARNAGE shows exactly 'what happens when people stop being polite... and start getting real.' Well, at least, 'real' in a comically over-the-top way, that is. This outrageous farce---directed by Michael Arabian and featuring some top-notch, gusto-tinged performances from its four-person cast---continues its regional Southland performances at the La Mirada Theater for the Performing Arts through February 16. Molly C. Quinn, best known for her role as "Alexis Castle" on ABC's hit show Castle, has been set to join Jane Kaczmarek, Susan Sullivan, Hugo Armstrong, Shannon Lee Clair and Angela Paton when L.A. Theatre Worksrecords Diane Samuels' award-winning play, Kindertransport, for radio broadcast and digital download. In Kindertransport, Quinn will play opposite Susan Sullivan as her daughter - on Castle, she plays Sullivan's granddaughter. Five performances will be recorded in front of a live audience at UCLA's James Bridges Theater June 20 through June 23. Jeanie Hackett directs. (more...)

L.A. Theatre Works Will Return to China This Year

At the invitation of Beijng's National Centre for the Performing Arts and sponsored in part by the U.S. Embassy in Beijing and the U.S. Department of State, L.A. Theatre Works (LATW) will return to China in June, 2013 with Geoffrey Cowan and Leroy Aarons' riveting historical drama, Top Secret: The Battle for The Pentagon Papers. LATW toured China with Top Secret in 2011, playing to sold out houses of Chinese professionals and students. (more...)
