Steve March Torme, the first-born son of legendary jazz singer Mel Torme presents a magical evening of music and memories on Monday, February 6, at 8:00pm at the McCallum Theatre. Steve March Torme, accompanied by a ten-piece band playing iconic arrangements by Marty Paich, sings his father's best-known songs, interspersed with personal Torme photos and video clips. From the opening strains of "Sweet Georgia Brown" to the up-tempo excitement of Duke Ellington's "It Don't Mean a Thing if it Ain't Got That Swing," the concert covers a sweeping arc of many of the songs Mel performed over a 50 years plus career, including "Stardust," "A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square," "Lulu's Back in Town," and "The Folks Who Live on the Hill." Luther Burbank Center for the Arts (The Center) and the Santa Rosa Symphony present a special musical event as a part of the2016-2017 Symphony Pops Series on Sunday, February 19 at 3 p.m. featuring cabaret star Ann Hampton Callaway singing hits from the Great American Songbook. Callaway joins the Santa Rosa Symphony for a celebration of 20th Century American music. From a command performance at the White House, to the Great White Way of Broadway, she has captivated audiences everywhere. The Tony-nominated star of the Broadway hit Swing! sings the timeless classics of George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Stephen Sondheim, Cole Porter and many more from the Great American Songbook. On Saturday, February 4 at 8 pm, The Princeton Symphony Orchestra (PSO)'s Saturday Evening POPS! concert celebrates famous songs and music of the stage and screen with guest vocalist Sierra Boggess and the return of Lucas Richman as host and conductor. The concert highlights iconic melodies from productions which have found success on both stage and screen. Ms. Boggess performs songs from Breakfast at Tiffany's, The Little Mermaid, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Love Never Dies, and In the Good Old Summertime. The evening also includes a tribute to George Gershwin, dance music by Leonard Bernstein from On the Town, and selections from Oliver! and The Producers. The concert takes place at Richardson Auditorium in Alexander Hall on the campus of Princeton University. (more...)
