Joyce Theater to Present U.S. Debut of MalPaso Dance Company, 5/27-6/1

The Joyce Theater will present the U.S. debut of Cuba's MalPaso Dance Company, performing the U.S. premieres of works by Ronald K. Brown and the company's artistic director Osnel Delgado, from May 27 - June 1. This engagement on the stage of The Joyce's landmark Chelsea home marks the first time MalPaso will perform outside of Cuba since the company's 2012 formation. Tickets range in price from $10-$59 ($26-$44 for Joyce Theater members), and can be purchased through JoyceCharge at 212-242-0800 or via the internet at www.joyce.org. The Art of Motion Dance Theatre (AOM) is a repertory company performing original works by Artistic Director Lynn Needle, Olivia Galgano, and guest artists. AOM is performing as part of Centenary Stage Company's Dance Fest on Saturday, April 5th at 8 p.m. at The Lackland Center in Hackettstown, NJ. This performance will feature a segment about Breast Cancer awareness using Centenary College Dance Students and noted experts in the field of dance, lighting, and music to create a memorable and touching event. New Year's Day afforded me the opportunity to watch four hit Broadway musicals that had been adapted for the screen: My Fair Lady, Camelot, Funny Girl and Hello Dolly. My Fair Lady and Camelot had a number of things in common: same director, lyricist, composer, leading lady, supporting male actor and, most important for me, the same choreographer: Hanya Holm, the modern dancer from Dresden who came to the United states to open a school and stayed for the rest of her life, dying at the age of 99!. Reagle Music Theatre of Greater Boston has announced the cast of My Fair Lady, the beloved Lerner and Loewe classic about an arrogant and crotchety phonetics professor who transforms a spirited Cockney flower girl into an elegant, proper-speaking English lady. Broadway's Rick Hilsabeck (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Billy Elliot, the first national tour of Phantom of the Opera) stars as the curmudgeonly professor Henry Higgins. His real-life co-star Sarah Pfisterer (Phantom of the Opera, Show Boat, Children and Art) is his reluctant protege Eliza Doolittle. Reagle Music Theatre of Greater Boston announces a trio of Tony Award-winning musicals for its 44th consecutive summer season. A Chorus Line, the ground-breaking 1970s musical about unsung Broadway dancers putting everything on the line at an audition to be in a show, opens the season June 15-24. Bye Bye Birdie, the jubilant 1960s rock 'n' roll inspired parody of what happens to a small Midwestern community when an Elvis-like musical star swings through town looking for one last kiss before entering the Army, runs July 13-22. My Fair Lady, the timeless 1950s Lerner and Loewe classic about an arrogant professor's transformation of a Cockney flower girl into an elegant, proper-speaking lady, takes the stage August 10-19.
