BWW Review: More Lovelier Than Ever, MY FAIR LADY Blossoms at RiversideBWW Review: More Lovelier Than Ever, MY FAIR LADY Blossoms at Riverside
by Jeffrey Walker - Apr 18, 2016

Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe's near masterpiece of a musical MY FAIR LADY took Broadway by storm 60 years ago this year and has become a 20th century classic. I am happy to report the plucky flower girl from the mean streets of London who gets molded into a proper lady is as lovely as ever as presented by Riverside Performing Arts Center. The sparkling wit, unrequited romance, musical hall turns and lush music are all performed with love and panache in director Patrick A'Hearn's production, featuring well-known DC actor Thomas Adrian Simpson as Henry Higgins and Riverside veteran Quinn Vogt-Welch in the title role. by Barnett Serchuk - Jan 4, 2013

New Year's Day afforded me the opportunity to watch four hit Broadway musicals that had been adapted for the screen: My Fair Lady, Camelot, Funny Girl and Hello Dolly. My Fair Lady and Camelot had a number of things in common: same director, lyricist, composer, leading lady, supporting male actor and, most important for me, the same choreographer: Hanya Holm, the modern dancer from Dresden who came to the United states to open a school and stayed for the rest of her life, dying at the age of 99!. Broadway's Rick Hilsabeck (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Billy Elliot, the first national tour of Phantom of the Opera) stars as the curmudgeonly professor Henry Higgins. His real-life co-star Sarah Pfisterer (Phantom of the Opera, Show Boat, Children and Art) is his reluctant protege Eliza Doolittle. Performances are August 10-19 in the Robinson Theatre, 617 Lexington Street, Waltham. (more...)
