The Los Angeles Philharmonic's classical season at the Hollywood Bowl opens with celebrated conductor Michael Tilson Thomas leading the orchestra in Mahler's Second Symphony ('Resurrection') with the Los Angeles Master Chorale and soprano Kiera Duffy and mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke,Tuesday, July 9, at 8 pm. Tilson Thomas continues the opening week of the Bowl classical season, leading one of the world's greatest violinists, Gil Shaham, in Sibelius' Violin Concerto, Thursday, July 11, at 8 pm.

Tonight, June 29, pianist Vladimir Khomyakov, silver medal winner of the 2013 Houston Symphony Ima Hogg Competition, will perform Prokofiev's famous Piano Concerto No. 3 alongside the Houston Symphony as part of the ExxonMobil Summer Symphony Nights Series at Miller Outdoor Theatre. The concert will also feature the popular Overture to Verdi's La Forza del Destino and Brahms' Symphony No. 1. Making his Houston Symphony debut, young conductor Aziz Shokhakimov has received international acclaim as a talented young conductor, leading European orchestras and earning top honors at festivals and competitions.

The New York Philharmonic's season-finale program, A Dancer's Dream: Two Works by Stravinsky — conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert and starring New York City Ballet principal dancer Sara Mearns in a production created by Giants Are Small — will be distributed to cinemas worldwide by SpectiCast beginning September 2013. On July 4th, 1998, the Las Vegas Philharmonic launched its classical music presence in Southern Nevada, bringing a refined new cultural dimension to the city. The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) announces the appointment of Didi Balle as the organization's first-ever Playwright in Residence. Balle (pronounced 'BAHL-ee) is a writer and director whose credits include the creation of a new genre for orchestras and actors: the Symphonic PlayTM. This position formalizes the partnership that the BSO under Music Director Marin Alsop initiated with Balle in 2008 when the BSO commissioned and performed Balle's 'CSI: Beethoven.'
