The Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), the nation's premier orchestra dedicated exclusively to commissioning, performing, and recording new orchestral music, bridges the electro-acoustic divide in its season-opening concert. Spotlighting composers known for their virtuosic writing and electronic transformation of acoustic instruments, BMOP presents the world premiere of Anthony Paul De Ritis's Riflessioni, featuring bassoonist Patrick De Ritis, and the Boston premieres of Ronald Bruce Smith's Constellation and David Felder's Les Quatre Temps Cardinaux, featuring soprano Laura Aikin and bass Ethan Herschenfeld.

Music Director Alan Gilbert will launch the New York Philharmonic's 2014-15 subscription season with the U.S. Premiere of Unsuk Chin's Clarinet Concerto -- a New York Philharmonic co-commission with the Gothenburg Symphony, WDR Symphony, Philharmonia, and Barcelona Symphony orchestras -- performed by Kari Kriikku in his Philharmonic subscription debut, as well as Mahler's Symphony No. 1, Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, September 26 at 11:00 a.m.; Saturday, September 27 at 8:00 p.m.; and Tuesday, September 30 at 7:30 p.m.

The 2014-2015 season of 'Concerts from the Library of Congress' brings a stellar roster of performers, ensembles and scholars from around the world in commemoration of the 150th birthday of founding patron Elizabeth Sprague Coolidge. The concerts are complemented by guest speakers, curators, panels, film screenings and displays of rarely seen manuscripts, letters and memorabilia from the Library's holdings. Concerts kick off Saturday, Oct. 11, at 8 p.m. with a performance by gospel and soul music legend Mavis Staples.

Award-winning choreographers Janice Garrett and Charles Moulton will present the premiere of The Luminous Edge, a new evening-length dance theater work that explores themes of transcendence, hope and rebirth. The deeply expressive and theatrical work will feature six Garrett + Moulton dance soloists and an ensemble of 18 additional dancers who will serve as a "movement choir"-a theatrical form used by Garrett and Moulton in their 2009 and 2011 productions, The Illustrated Book of Invisible Stories and The Experience of Flight in Dreams. Performances of The Luminous Edge will be given Thursday-Saturday, September 18-20, at 8 PM and Sunday, September 21, at 3 PM and the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater is located at 701 Mission Street. New York Philharmonic Announces Lineup of Emerging Composers as Part of NY Phil Biennial

The New York Philharmonic and American Composers Orchestra (ACO), in collaboration with ACO's EarShot: the National Orchestra Composition Discovery Network, announce the selection of three works by emerging composers to receive premieres this week by the New York Philharmonic as part of the inaugural NY PHIL BIENNIAL. Julia Adolphe's Dark Sand, Sifting Light will receive its World Premiere June 5, conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert; Andrew McManus's Strobe will receive its World Premiere June 6, conducted by Matthias Pintscher; and Max Grafe's Bismuth: Variations for Orchestra will receive its World Premiere June 7, conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert.
