Memento Films International has picked-up international rights to scribe Jason Lew's directorial debut THE FREE WORLD.

The acclaimed American Youth Symphony (AYS), one of the nation's leading professional training orchestras for musicians ages 15 to 27, continues its 49th season with 'Elfman Project II,' a free concert that is part of a multi-year exploration of the music of four-time Academy Award-nominated composer Danny Elfman, tonight, November 24, 2013, 7 pm, at UCLA's Royce Hall.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will explore cinema's roots in stage magic and sleight of hand and show how visual deception drove the development of movie special effects, on Wednesday, November 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

Silverlake Conservatory of Music announced today that its founder, Red Hot Chili Peppers' bassist Flea, and bandmate/front-man Anthony Kiedis will host a benefit for the school on Wednesday, October 30th in Silverlake, CA featuring special performances by Neil Young and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Proceeds from the evening will contribute to the Conservatory's goal of purchasing a permanent facility and expanding their scholarship program.

Breaking Glass Pictures will release Xavier Dolan'sLaurence Anyways on home video this fall. The American presentation, from executive producer Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting, Milk), will be available nationwide on October 1st on high-definition Blu-Ray (SRP $29.99) and DVD (SRP $24.99).

Signaling the start of the social season, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) will hold its annual Gala Concert tonight, September 7 at 8:30 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. This year's Gala will be led by BSO Principal Pops Conductor Jack Everly. The concert features the band Pink Martini with vocalist Storm Large, who will collaborate with the BSO for an intoxicating mix of cabaret, samba, jazz and Hollywood musicals. National Public Radio's news correspondent Ari Shapiro, a frequent guest vocalist with Pink Martini, will perform.

Sofia's Downstairs Theatre and it's sister restaurant on West 46th Street--the site where the Luca Brasi murder scene was filmed for The Godfather--may now sleep with the fishes, but Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks, who for the past five years and more than 500 shows have been playing at the venue and keeping alive the big band music of the jazz and swing eras of the 1920s, will be swimming upstream to a new home at the Iguana Restaurant on 54th Street (between Broadway and 8th Avenue). Giordano was forced to move when earlier this summer The Hotel Edison decided not to renew Sofia Restaurant's lease (after jacking up the rent exponentially). The Nighthawks, who played at Sofia's downstairs club every Monday and Tuesday nights from 8 to 11pm, will have the same weekly performance schedule at Iguana beginning on September 9. The cover will be $15 with a $20 food/drink minimum.
