For the second to last concert of Pacific Symphony's Summer Festival 2016 at Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre—the audience is sure to hear these words ringing in their ears: The name is Bond…James Bond. Dashing and debonair, Bond's movie themes are instantly recognizable, evoking international intrigue, glamour and suspense. Making this concert especially memorable are vocalist Scott Coulter and two-time Grammy Award-winner Sheena Easton, featured singer on the James Bond soundtrack, “For Your Eyes Only.” With more than 20 million records worldwide, Easton joins the Symphony to seduce the audience into the world of “Goldfinger,” “The Spy Who Loved Me,” “A View to a Kill,” “Skyfall” and more. Nominated for eight Tony® Awards, Smokey Joe's Cafe is a musical revue showcasing 39 pop standards from the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's, including rock and roll and rhythm and blues songs written by songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. The Original Broadway cast recording, Smokey Joe's Cafe: The Songs Of Leiber And Stoller, won a Grammy Award in 1996. After a Los Angeles tryout, the revue opened on Broadway in 1995, running for 2,036 performances, making it the longest -running musical revue in Broadway history. It also had a London run in 1996. The show will open at Jacksonville's Alhambra Theatre & Dining on August 3, 2016. (more...)

 Last evening, the Apollo Theater celebrated its 11th Annual Spring Gala raising $1.7M for its year-round artistic and community programming initiatives.  The concert portion of the evening was hosted by LL COOL J, and opened with the dynamic dancing duo Laurent & Larry Bourgeois of Les Twins.  The concert also featured performances by legendary R&B group, The O'Jays including rousing version of Love Train, The Backstabbers, For the Love of Money and more.  Rising star vocalist, Leon Bridges brought the crowd to its feet with a performance of Mustang Sally and vocalist Andra Day performed her hit song City Burns,followed by a touching performance of Unforgettable in tribute to legendary songstress Natalie Cole. Host LL COOL J also joined DJ D-Nice for a tribute to Phife Dawg of A Tribe Called Quest - one of several iconic artists lost in 2016.  (more...)
