The film tells the story of Kate (Hilary Swank), an accomplished woman in her 30s whose perfectly-ordered life is suddenly upended when she is diagnosed with the devastating and incurable disease ALS. Kate and her husband Evan (Josh Duhamel) must find a full time caregiver to help, and so they meet college student Bec (Emmy Rossum), who has impulsively answered their ad despite her complete lack of experience. Huntington/Coolidge's 'Stage & Screen' Series to Open 9/8 with JUNGLE FEVER

In 1985, Larry Kramer's play 'The Normal Heart' debuted at The Public Theatre, and sent shockwaves through the theatrical community. The play was a current, powerful look at the quick-spread of the AIDS epidemic that was raviging the gay community in New York. In The New York Times, theatre critic Frank Rich said of the initial production, 'There can be little doubt that 'The Normal Heart' is the most outspoken play around - or that it speaks up about a subject that justifies its author's unflagging, at times even hysterical, sense of urgency.' Wolfe, based on the 1928 poem by Joseph Moncure March, directed by Brenda Didier and musical direction by Aaron Benham*. The season continues this winter with the world premiere of the fierce new play PRINCESS MARY DEMANDS YOUR ATTENTION by Resident Playwright Aaron Holland, directed by Artistic Director Lili-Anne Brown*. Bad Hindu in association with East 4th Street and Off-Chance Productions has announced Rise and Shine [I Thought I Was White], written and performed by Anil Kumar for a limited engagement at the Let Live Theatre @ The Actors Company. Directed by Reena Dutt, Rise and Shine will play one preview performance on Friday, September 12 at 8pm and opening is set for Saturday, September 13 at 8pm. AUTHOR'S NOTE: One of the most iconic Broadway leading ladies in theatrical history, in honor of her passing earlier today at the age of 89, let us revisit this career-spanning InDepth InterView with the one and only Elaine Stritch. As a personal aside, following the conclusion of the interview proper the conversation between Ms. Stritch and I continued for several more minutes and she emphatically relayed to me that this had been her favorite interview to date and that she was incredibly appreciative and pleased with being questioned about the topics chosen herein. Happy Birthday Tony Kushner! Kushner's best known work is Angels in America, a seven-hour epic about the AIDS epidemic in Reagan-era New York, which was later adapted into a miniseries for which Kushner wrote the screenplay. His other plays include Hydriotaphia, Slavs!: Thinking About the Longstanding Problems of Virtue and Happiness, A Bright Room Called Day, Homebody/Kabul, and the book for the musical Caroline, or Change. His new translation of Bertolt Brecht's Mother Courage and Her Children was performed at the Delacorte Theater in the summer of 2006 starring Meryl Streep and directed by George C. Wolfe. Kushner has also adapted Brecht's The Good Person of Szechwan, Corneille's The Illusion, and S. Ansky's play The Dybbuk. (more...)

The Center for Civil and Human Rights is Now Open in Atlanta

The Center for Civil and Human Rights, a new center that brings together the history of the American Civil Rights Movement and international human rights efforts, opened this week in Atlanta. David Rockwell and his award-winning firm Rockwell Group designed the Center's exhibitions in collaboration with George C.
