New this season, LA Opera presents After Hours: A Musical Nocturne, a post-show, late-night concert series featuring classical and contemporary music, performed along with rock and jazz selections. The series will be hosted and curated by Artist in Residence Matthew Aucoin and will feature music ranging from Franz Schubert, Gustav Mahler and Francis Poulenc to Bruce Springsteen, Nick Drake and Radiohead. Taking place immediately following select opera performances, these events will feature an array of artists performing in the intimate setting of the Founders Room, located on the second floor of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion (135 North Grand Avenue, Los Angeles, 90012). Resuming its usual time slot on Sunday, October 9 at 4 pm, the Princeton Symphony Orchestra (PSO) presents Viennese Reflections Edward T. Cone Concert spotlighting one of the most important violinists of our time-Leila Josefowicz. Ms. Josefowicz performsAlban Berg's Violin Concerto "To the Memory of an Angel" with the orchestra under the direction of Rossen Milanov. Bookending the concerto is the world premiere of Julian Grant's PSO-commissioned work Is it enough? Perhaps it is… and Franz Schubert's Symphony No. 9 in C Major, D. 944 "Great." The Cleveland Orchestra and Music Director Franz Welser-Möst announce further details of their new production of Debussy's Pelléas and Mélisande.  The impressionistic French opera, with its luminous and hypnotic score, is being presented at Severance Hall this coming spring, with performances May 2, 4, and 6, 2017.  The creative team for this brand-new, made-for-Cleveland production is being led by Director Yuval Sharon working with Set Designer Mimi Lien, Lighting and Projection Designer Jason Thompson, Choreographer Danielle Agami, and Costume Designer Ann Closs-Farley. Brooklyn Art Song Society (BASS) opens its seventh season on Friday October 7, 2016 with Fin de Siecle, the first of five concerts in the ambitious series Wien. This concert is the first in BASS's new primary venue, the Brooklyn Historical Society. Fin de Siecle features four composers who epitomize the opulence and decadence of late German Romanticism: Joseph Marx, Hans Pfitzner, Richard Strauss, and Alexander Zemlinsky. Highlights from the program include Pfitzner's extended masterpiece An den Mond and Richard Strauss's beloved Vier letze Lieder (Four Last Songs). The seven first-class performers include soprano Tami Petty (winner, Joy in Singing) and baritone Tobias Greenhalgh (Wiener Kammeropera). There will also be a pre-concert lecture by esteemed New York University professor Larry Wolff at 7:00 entitled "Art and Politics in Fin de Siecle Vienna." (more...)

The Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), 2016 Musical America Ensemble of the Year, begins its 21st season advocating for the best in contemporary and 20th century orchestral music. On Saturday, October 8, at Jordan Hall, BMOP presents distinctive and exciting symphonic works by four prominent voices that have helped to shape the American concert scene over the past three-quarters of a century: The Schubert Birds by Michael Colgrass; Symphony Concertante by Gail Kubik, featuring soloists Terry Everson (trumpet), Jing Peng (viola), and Vivian Choi (piano), and Partita in C by Harold Shapero featuring Vivian Choi (piano).
