Boston Ballet Announces 2014-15 Season - SWAN LAKE, THE NUTCRACKER and More

Boston Ballet Artistic Director Mikko Nissinen today announced the programming for the 2014-2015 season at the Boston Opera House. Boston Ballet's 51st season kicks off with the world premiere of Mikko Nissinen's Swan Lake, featuring glorious new sets and costumes by award winning designer Robert Perdziola. The season continues with the beloved new production of Nissinen's The Nutcracker and Val Caniparoli's romantic drama Lady of the Camellias. The spring season heats up with a burst of contemporary and neo-classical choreography from masters such as William Forsythe, Jerome Robbins, Helen Pickett, and Wayne McGregor, including the Company premieres of George Balanchine's Episodes and Hans van Manen's Black Cake. Adding to the excitement, Boston Ballet will present world premieres by Resident Choreographer Jorma Elo and Principal Dancer Jeffrey Cirio. (more...)

On Sunday, March 9 at 3 pm, Mexican born pianist Juan Pablo Horcasitas will host a CD Release Party for his first solo album “Among Songs and Dances” in the Benay Benuta Hall at Lighthouse Guild, 111 East 59th Street, New York. “Among Songs and Dances” includes music from Bach to Zyman creating a beautiful journey through original and arranged songs and dances for the piano. Artistic Director Peter Boal has announced to subscribers the line-up for Pacific Northwest Ballet's 2014-2015 season. Highlights include a program devoted to the work of acclaimed choreographer William Forsythe; the return of popular works by George Balanchine, Alexei Ratmansky, David Dawson, and Nacho Duato; a world premiere by New York City Ballet's Justin Peck, a PNB premiere by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa; and a fond farewell to the Northwest's favorite holiday tradition, Kent Stowell and Maurice Sendak's Nutcracker. Franz Welser-Most to Conduct Wozzeck at Carnegie Hall, 2/28

Carnegie Hall today announced that conductor Franz Welser-Most has graciously agreed to step in for Daniele Gatti in the concert performance of Alban Berg's opera Wozzeck on Friday, February 28 at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. The concert by the Vienna State Opera and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra is part of Carnegie Hall's three-week, citywide festival Vienna: City of Dreams. Due to a tendinopathy (acute inflammation of the tendon) of both shoulders, Maestro Daniele Gatti-on the advice of his doctors-with deep regret cancels all his professional engagements for the next two months, including his two Vienna: City of Dreams programs, scheduled for February 28 and March 15 at Carnegie Hall. A new conductor for the March 15 concert by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra is to be announced. (more...)

Canadian Opera Company Ensemble Studio Welcomes Four New Performers for 2014-15 Season

The Canadian Opera Company Ensemble Studio, Canada's premier training program for young opera professionals, welcomes four talented new Canadian artists for the 2014/2015 season. Soprano Karine Boucher, tenor Jean-Philippe Fortier-Lazure and bass-baritone Iain MacNeil were among the nine finalists featured in the third annual Ensemble Studio Competition in November 2013. Boucher, Fortier-Lazure andMacNeil were top prize winners at the competitive vocal showcase which was the feature event of the COC's inaugural Ensemble Studio Competition Gala, Centre Stage, an evening dedicated to the discovery and celebration of the next generation of opera stars.
