Quintessence Theatre Group launches its sixth season of progressive classic theatre with Shakespeare's romantic tragedy ROMEO AND JULIET presented in rotating repertory with Wallace Shawn's celebrated translation of Machiavelli's sex comedy THE MANDRAKE. A nine actor repertory ensemble comprised of Quintessence's best and director Alexander Burns will continue to establish Quintessence's brand of full throttle epic classic theatre for today. ROMEO AND JULIET will begin previews on Wednesday, September 30 at 7pm and open on Saturday, October 3 at 8pm.  THE MANDRAKE will begin previews on Wednesday, October 14 at 7pm and open on Saturday, October 17 at 8pm. Eric Rosen, Artistic Director of Kansas City Repertory Theatre, today announced the casting for the lead roles for Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Pulitzer-Prize winning masterpiece, Sunday in the Park with George. Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel Nominee Claybourne Elder (Bonnie & Clyde, Road Show, Allegro) will lead the cast as George, reprising his critically-acclaimed performance in Signature Theatre's award-winning 2014 production. Broadway veteran Sara Jean Ford (A Little Night Music, The Phantom of the Opera, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Finian's Rainbow) has been cast in the legendary role of Dot. Rosen will direct the production, to be produced in a unique partnership with the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art. (more...)

Steppenwolf Theatre Company celebrates 40 years as America's longest running, most distinguished ensemble theater with a remarkable lineup of plays in the 2015/16 Subscription Season, all by Pulitzer Prize-winning writers. Kicking off the landmark season is John Steinbeck's East of Eden, a world premiere adaptation by Frank Galati. Steppenwolf's deep connection with the Pulitzer Prize-winning author can be traced back to the company's 1988 production of The Grapes of Wrath, which Galati adapted and directed. The production transferred to Broadway, California and London and received two Tony Awards-Best Play and Best Director-garnering Steppenwolf international acclaim. (more...)
