PICT Theatre's final production of the season is the Pittsburgh premiere of Paul Giovanni's The Crucifer of Blood, a Sherlock Holmes adventure featuring characters created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Matt Torney directs. David Whalen returns to reprise the role of Sherlock Holmes since his 2011 turn as the master detective. Also returning from the 2011 production is Daryll Heysham as Inspector Lestrade. Justin R. G. Holcomb makes his PICT debut as Dr. Watson.

American Theater Company announces Town Hall, a series of interdisciplinary artistic events that spark debate on a national issue. In collaboration with Stella Adler Studio of Acting's Harold Clurman Laboratory Theater Company and the Illinois Single Payer Coalition ATC proudly presents Mercy Killers, written and performed by Michael Milligan, directed by Tom Oppenheim. Mercy Killers is the winner of a prestigious First Fringe Award from The Scotsman for best new writing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, receiving rave reviews calling the play, '…shattering' (The Stage) and '…theatre distilled to its most basic essentials' (The Scotsman). This will be the play's only Chicago stop before going to a six-week Off-Broadway run this January and February at the Harold Clurman Laboratory Theater in New York City.

In Folger Theatre's ROMEO AND JULIET, passionately directed by Aaron Posner, Juliet too is such a heroine, and this tragic tale of young love lost becomes a much deeper story of human rights denied.

Arden Theatre Company continues its 26th season of great stories with Stick Fly by Lydia R. Diamond under the direction of Walter Dallas. The production appears on the Arden's Arcadia Stage from tonight, October 24 through December 22, 2013 at 40 N. 2nd Street in Philadelphia.

Blue Mountain Express is the debut evening-length choreographic venture for DC-base dancers Eleni Grove and Matina Phillips. CST's new production of Edmond Rostand's timeless classic, adapted and translated by Anthony Burgess, marks the return to CST of director Penny Metropulos and film and stage actor Harry Groener, the duo behind the Theater's award-winning 2011 production of The Madness of George III. Featuring some of the most romantic and witty verse written for the stage, Cyrano de Bergerac is a poignant and entertaining homage to poetry, love and panache which will run in CST's Courtyard Theater now through November 10, 2013. Following a season that included the best-selling ensemble musicalJames Joyce's The Dead, the critically-acclaimed two-man drama A Walk in the Woods, and the highly-successful area premiere of Conor McPherson's adaptation The Birds, Quotidian Theatre Company opens its 16th season with The Iceman Cometh, a rarely-performed masterpiece by Nobel Laureate and Pulitzer Prize winner Eugene O'Neill that The New York Times calls a 'tough, loquacious, magnificent play'. Quotidian's production runs October 25 - November 24 at The Writer's Center in downtown Bethesda.

The Folger Theatre launches its 2013/14 season with the world's most celebrated love story, Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. This timeless story of young, passionate love set against a sea of hate is retold by three-time Helen Hayes Award-winning director Aaron Posner (The Taming of the Shrew, Cyrano, and Macbeth at the Folger), leading an outstanding ensemble including Michael Goldsmith (Clybourne Park in London's West End) as Romeo and Erin Weaver (Arcadia and The Comedy of Errors at the Folger) as Juliet. Romeo and Juliet begins performances on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 and continues its initial run through Sunday, December 1.
