Ebola, Frozen and Ariana Grande Top Yahoo's Most-SearchedEbola, Frozen and Ariana Grande Top Yahoo's Most-Searched
by BWW News Desk - Dec 3, 2014

Since 2001, Yahoo's top searches have reflected the year's major stories: including the 2001 World Trade Center bombing, the 2008 election of Barack Obama, or the devastating 2010 Japan earthquake. This year, the Ebola scare swept the top 10 searches, unseating last year's top two: Miley Cyrus (No. 8) and Kim Kardashian (No. 6). A regular since 2009, Kardashian's wedding, baby, and a plan to “break the Internet”, kept her on the list, but she falls below the fast-rising young singer, Ariana Grande (No. 3) and new American sweetheart, Jennifer Lawrence (No. 4). Everyone is singing (“Let it go, let it go”); “Frozen” (No. 7) is a genuine obsession, making our top 10 list and topping our most-searched lyrics list. Minecraft (No. 2), continues to be the ultimate video game of choice, making the list for the second year in a row. (more...)

BWW Review: Rita Carrey's AROUND EACH CHRISTMAS TREE AlbumBWW Review: Rita Carrey's AROUND EACH CHRISTMAS TREE Album
by Dennis Kucherawy - Nov 19, 2014

Listening to Rita Carrey's debut CD Around Each Christmas Tree, it's obvious baby brother Jim, one of filmdom's greatest and most successful comic-actors, didn't get all the talent in the family. This is a wonderful, fun-filled celebration of seasonal classics with performances so infectious you are tempted to toss away your holiday stress and just sing along. The star capping this Christmas pine of musical pleasure is Rita's own, original song that gives the CD its title ... Around Each Christmas Tree. It's the rum in your egg nog with a catchy, pop-rock, maybe even country, melody and lovely lyrics celebrating the true meaning of our Yuletide season. (more...)

CABARET LIFE NYC: Reaction to the Recent Rita Wilson and Molly Ringwald Cafe Carlyle Shows Reveal Much About How We View Singing CelebritiesCABARET LIFE NYC: Reaction to the Recent Rita Wilson and Molly Ringwald Cafe Carlyle Shows Reveal Much About How We View Singing Celebrities
by Stephen Hanks - Oct 27, 2014

Rita Wilson and Molly Ringwald deserve a lot of credit for being gutsy enough to go out of their comfort zones as performers and venture into the intimate, sometimes scary art from known as cabaret, where you're always live and can't rely on extra takes. It's also obvious that they've worked very hard at becoming the best vocalists they can possibly be. They have just as much right to live out their cabaret performing fantasies as, oh, about 75 percent of the 'singers' booking shows in cabaret room all over the New York. If Wilson and Ringwald weren't bold-faced names would their singing really be considered good enough to merit them gigs (and extended ones at that) at the Cafe Carlyle? And if they weren't celebrities, would they be receiving such breathlessly positive reviews from critics, some of who should know better? (more...)
