Short Story Theatre presents an evening of five warm, wise and wonderful true stories on Wednesday, September 20, at 7:30 p.m. at The Art Center Highland Park, 1957 Sheridan Rd. in Highland Park. 

PASTICHENYC and The Mount, Edith Wharton's Home, will present a special event which includes the complete series of Edith Wharton's The House of Mirth Song Cycle, written and directed by Emily King plus a talkback 'Wharton, Rosedale, and Anti-Semitism' with King and Wharton Scholar Lev Raphael.

The Broad Stage and esteemed LA-based publisher Red Hen Press continues season two of the Red Hen Press Poetry Hour with an online episode on Thursday, September 24 at 6pm PT in which host Sandra Tsing Loh leads a program with five unique artists about the intersections between feminism, performance, identity and poetry in the time following the #MeToo Movement.

The Woodstock Film Festival is thrilled to announce its 2018 top honorary award recipients: Tony®, Emmy®, and Grammy® winning and Oscar® nominated filmmaker, Julie Taymor will receive the honorary Maverick Award at the 19th annual Woodstock Film Festival. Oscar® nominated and Emmy® award-winning director Matthew Heineman will receive the Filmmaker Award of Distinction during that same time. The Maverick Awards ceremony takes place on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Backstage Studio Productions in Kingston, NY. Additionally, Heineman's feature narrative debut, A PRIVATE WAR, starring Rosamund Pike, Jamie Dornan and Stanley Tucci will close the film festival on the evening of Sunday, October 14th and Taymor's globally renowned ACROSS THE UNIVERSE will have a special tribute screening on the morning of October 14th. Both films will be followed by Q&As. The 19th annual Woodstock Film Festival takes place from October 10-14, 2018.

The veteran documentary filmmaker and screenwriter added: 'The first draft was finished before there was a 'Sex and the City.' But it covers similar topics. The 90s produced stories of women exploring their sexual 'freedom' and feeling less than thrilled with the results.' Warren credited the 70s 'Fear of Flying' author Erica Jong with opening the literary door. 'Jong boldly wrote about sex and made it sound like a necessary component to learning how to care for one's soul.' For those who may be Kindle-less, Amazon offers a free download app for smartphones. 'And I have some excerpts on the book's blog,' Warren said. 'They give more plot points than the 'peek inside' option.' 'The Asian man/Caucasian woman dating aspect in the book is not a small thing,' said Warren. 'A lot of Americans know nothing about the Asian American experience. It's rare for media to portray Asian American men as romantic leads in fiction. I tried for years with other projects and hit the wall every time in Hollywood.' Just how sexy is it? 'Not as graphic as earlier drafts,' Warren said with a laugh. 'But it's still very erotic when it needs to be. I'd say about Fifty Shades of Hot.'
