The Flea Theater is proud to announce yet another extension of Kim Davies' World Premiere Smoke, directed by Flea Resident Director Tom Costello (The Wundelsteipen (and other difficult roles for young people)) and featuring members of The Bats, the resident acting company at The Flea. Says Producing Director Carol Ostrow, "where 50 Shades of Grey dances on the surface of BDSM, Smoke cuts to the core." Performances will now run through February 1, 2015 at The Flea, where performances started in August of 2014. (more...)

Anna Camp, Oliver Hollmann, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Robert Sella, Jeanine Serralles, Danny Wolohan, and Damian Young will be featured in the LCT3/Lincoln Center Theater world premiere production of VERITE, a new play by Nick Jones, directed by Moritz von Stuelpnagel. VERITE begins performances Saturday, January 31, opens Wednesday, February 18, and will run for six weeks only through Sunday, March 15 at the Claire Tow Theater (150 West 65 Street). (more...)

New Light Theater Project, who have just been inducted into the Indie Theater Hall of Fame for 2014 by Indie Theater Now, will present the World premiere of NO ONE LOVES US HERE by hot, up-and-coming British playwright Ross Howard. This black comedy was a finalist for the New York Stage and Film Founders Award 2012. Directed by Jerry Heymann, previews begin January 15 at Urban Stages. Opening night is slated for January 22. Waterwell, one of the Village Voice's Best Arguments for Devised Theater and creators of GOODBAR and #9, continues its annual series of developmental workshop productions by commissioning a new play from Qui Nguyen (The Inexplicable Redemption of Agent G, She Kills Monsters) for its senior Drama Class of 2015 at the Professional Performing Arts School (PPAS). To be directed by longtime collaborator, Robert Ross Parker (Goodbye Cruel World, co-artistic director of Vampire Cowboys), the piece will premiere at PPAS in April 2015. (more...)

Marin Theatre Company artistic director Jasson Minadakis, managing director Michael Barker and director of new play development Margot Melcon announced today the winners of MTC's two new American play prizes, a program now in its seventh year. Skeleton Crew by Dominique Morisseau won the 2014 Sky Cooper New American Play Prize and Martyna Majok won the 2014 David Calicchio Emerging American Playwright Prize for her play Ironbound. NEW YORK The Juilliard Opera season opens with a production of Gioachino Rossini's Il Turco in Italia (The Turk in Italy), a drama buffo in two acts with a libretto by Felice Romani. Juilliard alumnaSperanza Scappucci conducts the Juilliard singers and the Juilliard Orchestra in her conducting debut at Juilliard in the production directed by John Giampietro. Performances take place on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 and Friday, November 21, 2014 at 8 p.m.; and Sunday, November 23, 2014 at 2 p.m., in Juilliard's Peter Jay Sharp Theater. Tickets for Juilliard Opera's production of Il Turco in Italia are $30 and available at events.juilliard.edu or at the Juilliard Box Office.
