The Jewish Museum and Bang on a Can Present First Concert in New Series, 7/10

Bang on a Can: Other Primary Structures, a concert featuring Bang on a Can All-Stars Vicky Chow (piano) and David Cossin (percussion) with Dither Quartet guitarists Taylor Levine and James Moore, will take place at the Jewish Museum on Thursday, July 10 at 7:30pm. This program is the first auditorium concert of the Jewish Museum and Bang on a Can's new partnership to produce a series of dynamic musical performances at the Museum from June 2014 to May 2015, inspired by the Jewish Museum's diverse slate of exhibitions. Noura Mint Seymali Performs in Brooklyn Tonight

From the Saharan capital of Nouakchott, Mauritania, Noura Mint Seymali embarks on a debut tour of the United States in September 2013, transporting sounds from the desert tents and urban courtyards where Moorish music lives to the American concert hall. Noura Mint Seymali, lead vocalist, and her husband Jeiche Ould Chighaly, guitarist, hail from two of Mauritania's most prominent Moorish griot families, the storied class of musician-historians in West Africa. Located at the convergence of North and Sub-Saharan Africa, Mauritania bridges the cultural divide between the Arab world and Francophone West Africa, a convergence revealed most tellingly in the music of the griot.
