There are some familiar chords being heard at Cafe Carlyle as Alexa Ray Joel, daughter of music legend Billy Joel and supermodel Christie Brinkley has returned for a two week engagement. The New York Times called Joel, 'a singer following her own heart,' adding 'Her original work…is firmly grounded in a pop tradition in which streams converge, from gospel to Tin Pan Alley.' 

The 3rd night of The 26th New YOrk Cabaret Convention at The Town Hall was hosted by Karen Mason and directed by Barry Kleinbort. BroadwayWorld was there for performances by Karen Mason, Sandy Stewart, Bill Charlap, Karen Ziemba, Stearns Matthews, Amra-Faye Wright, Robert Creighton, Sally Mayes, Lina Koutrakos, Jim Brochu, Steve Ross, Lauren Stanford, T. Oliver Reid, Penny Fuller & Marilyn Maye.

Primary Stages, in association with Amy Danis, Mark Johannes, and Dan Shaheen, presents PERFECT ARRANGEMENT, a New York premiere by Topher Payne (Swell Party, The Only Light in Reno) and directed by Michael Barakiva (White People). The limited engagement runs now through November 6, 2015 at Primary Stages at The Duke on 42nd Street - a New 42nd Street project. 

Jeff Harnar & Andrea Marcovicci hosted the second day of the Mabel Mercer Foundation's New York Cabaret Convention.  The Donald Smith Award was presented to Jeff by managing director Rick Meadows and Debbi Bush Whiting presented Celia Berk with The Margaret Whiting Award. Performing in the evenings concert were: Karen Akers, Danny Bacher, Julie Budd, Carole J. Bufford, Eric Comstock, Natalie Douglas, barbara Fasano, Jeff Harnar, Nicolas King, Karen Kohler, Andrea Mardovicci, Marissa Mulder, Todd Murray, Josephine Sanges, Jennifer Sheehan and Iris Williams.?

GRAMMY Award-winning jazz vocalist Kurt Elling made his Cafe Carlyle debut last night with Elling Swings Sinatra and BroadwayWorld was there. 

Acclaimed Broadway, film and television star Tovah Feldshuh brought her acclaimed show Aging Is Optional at 54 Below last night and BroadwayWorld was there for the fun. On the New York stage, besides earning four Tony nominations for Best Actress, Ms. Feldshuh won four Drama Desk Awards, four Outer Critics Circle Awards, the Obie, the Theatre World Award, and the Lucille LortelAward for Best Actress in Golda's Balcony. On the West Coast she received San Diego's Theatre Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Performance in a Touring Show for Golda's Balcony as well as two Drama Logue awards for her Juliet and her first one woman show: Tovah: A Rush Hour Revue! Most recently, Tovah stopped the show as the trapeze-swinging Berthe in the Tony Award-winning Broadway revival of Pippin. Last season, she played Lady Politic in the acclaimed revival of Ben Jonson's Volpone at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. As Jason Zinoman of The New York Times raved, 'No one earns more laughs than the marvelous Tovah Feldshuh.' 

The New York Pops celebrated the opening of its 33rd season at an opening night after-party at the Southgate Bar & Restaurant at the JW Marriott Essex House last night, and Broadwayworld takes you inside the event below!

This weekend, on Oct. 3, Jason Danieley took the stage for his Feinstein's/54 Below solo debut. Opening night well-wishers, included Danieley's wife, Tony Award nominee Marin Mazzie (Kiss Me, Kate, Ragtime); Tony Award winner Chita Rivera (The Visit, Kiss of the Spider Woman, The Rink); and Tony Award winning lyricist Lynn Ahrens (Ragtime, Once on This Island). 'This Is Cabaret', the NPR Radio Program hosted by Ann Hampton Callaway taped two segments before a live audience at Birdland yesterday and BroadwayWorld was there.

In his first major Manhattan appearance since his heralded debut at 'Broadway's supper club,' 54 Below, in July, acclaimed NYC jazz vocalist-songwriter MARCUS GOLDHABER returned to encore his new show, 'FREE & EASY: LIVIN' ON SWING STREET,' at the Metropolitan Room last night and Broadwayworld was on the scene! The Metropolitan Room hosted two simultaneous events last night. The 10th year of the MAC Award Winning Benefit Series Cabaret Cares, and the 3rd 40th Birthday of the charities creator Joseph Macchia. The non profit Joseph started 10 years ago has raised over $100,000 to help children living with HIV and AIDS. It was a cabaret spectacular and Broadwayworld was there to catch all the action. Broadway's Supper Club presented Joanna Strand and Jacqui Tate last night and BroadwayWorld was there.  Ann Hampton Callaway was a surprise guest and gave the British duo her Diva Blessing. Joanna Strand and Jacqui Tate bridge the worlds of musical theatre, jazz and popular song. Infinitely versatile and with a host of West End and touring credits between them, including The Phantom of the Opera, Avenue Q, Jekyll and Hyde, Evita and My Fair Lady as well as the Broadway transfers of Master Class and South Pacific, they captivate audiences with their unique harmonies and original arrangements. Embracing everything from the ridiculous to the sublime, their shows are guaranteed to entertain and delight.

Tony Award winner Brian Stokes Mitchell made his Cafe' Carlyle debut last night as he opened the Carlyle's fall season. The two-week engagement, entitled Plays With Music which featured Broadway favorites and standards.

Friars Club had a special  Bottoms Up Happy Hour last night to introduce two new bartenders, Jeanette and Joe. The jam packed Lucille Ball room also featured the piano stylings and vocals of Friar Stephen Sorokoff. After a very happy few hours many members enjoyed dinner in the Frank Sinatra dinning room where one of the menu selections was Friar Jimmy Fallon's Favorite Chicken Chow Mein. Even some Friars who were rained out of the Tennis Open were happy as they listened to Stephen's Billy Stritch, Buddy Greco, Errol Garner, & Steve Tyrell influenced musical offerings.

Tony and Golden Globe winner Linda Lavin takes the 54 Below stage this September, performing Broadway favorites, standards, jazz, and even some songs she learned from the great girl singers. New York audiences remember her from It's a Bird…It's a Plane…It's Superman, Last of the Red Hot Lovers, Broadway Bound, Collected Stories, The Diary of Anne Frank, Gypsy,The Tale of the Allergist's Wife, and many others, and the world over knows her as Alice Hyatt in the long-running hit TV series Alice.

It's Bryce Pinkham who usually murders the opposition in the Broadway hit A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, but yesterday afternoon the New York Yankees only needed his cheers to attain dominance over the Baltimore Orioles.  Bryce and his girlfriend, actress Emily Young, were in The Boss's  Box in Yankee Stadium with some other theatre professionals as Alex Rodriguez homered and the Yankees won 8-6.
