There are some familiar chords being heard at Cafe Carlyle as Alexa Ray Joel, daughter of music legend Billy Joel and supermodel Christie Brinkley has returned for a two week engagement. The New York Times called Joel, 'a singer following her own heart,' adding 'Her original work…is firmly grounded in a pop tradition in which streams converge, from gospel to Tin Pan Alley.'

Jeff Harnar & Andrea Marcovicci hosted the second day of the Mabel Mercer Foundation's New York Cabaret Convention.  The Donald Smith Award was presented to Jeff by managing director Rick Meadows and Debbi Bush Whiting presented Celia Berk with The Margaret Whiting Award. Performing in the evenings concert were: Karen Akers, Danny Bacher, Julie Budd, Carole J. Bufford, Eric Comstock, Natalie Douglas, barbara Fasano, Jeff Harnar, Nicolas King, Karen Kohler, Andrea Mardovicci, Marissa Mulder, Todd Murray, Josephine Sanges, Jennifer Sheehan and Iris Williams.?

Acclaimed Broadway, film and television star Tovah Feldshuh brought her acclaimed show Aging Is Optional at 54 Below last night and BroadwayWorld was there for the fun. On the New York stage, besides earning four Tony nominations for Best Actress, Ms. Feldshuh won four Drama Desk Awards, four Outer Critics Circle Awards, the Obie, the Theatre World Award, and the Lucille LortelAward for Best Actress in Golda's Balcony. On the West Coast she received San Diego's Theatre Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Performance in a Touring Show for Golda's Balcony as well as two Drama Logue awards for her Juliet and her first one woman show: Tovah: A Rush Hour Revue! Most recently, Tovah stopped the show as the trapeze-swinging Berthe in the Tony Award-winning Broadway revival of Pippin. Last season, she played Lady Politic in the acclaimed revival of Ben Jonson's Volpone at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. As Jason Zinoman of The New York Times raved, 'No one earns more laughs than the marvelous Tovah Feldshuh.'

The Metropolitan Room hosted two simultaneous events last night. The 10th year of the MAC Award Winning Benefit Series Cabaret Cares, and the 3rd 40th Birthday of the charities creator Joseph Macchia. The non profit Joseph started 10 years ago has raised over $100,000 to help children living with HIV and AIDS. It was a cabaret spectacular and Broadwayworld was there to catch all the action. Friars Club had a special  Bottoms Up Happy Hour last night to introduce two new bartenders, Jeanette and Joe. The jam packed Lucille Ball room also featured the piano stylings and vocals of Friar Stephen Sorokoff. After a very happy few hours many members enjoyed dinner in the Frank Sinatra dinning room where one of the menu selections was Friar Jimmy Fallon's Favorite Chicken Chow Mein. Even some Friars who were rained out of the Tennis Open were happy as they listened to Stephen's Billy Stritch, Buddy Greco, Errol Garner, & Steve Tyrell influenced musical offerings.

It's Bryce Pinkham who usually murders the opposition in the Broadway hit A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, but yesterday afternoon the New York Yankees only needed his cheers to attain dominance over the Baltimore Orioles.  Bryce and his girlfriend, actress Emily Young, were in The Boss's  Box in Yankee Stadium with some other theatre professionals as Alex Rodriguez homered and the Yankees won 8-6.
