If "satire is what closes on Saturday night" (according to the great playwright and wit George S. Kaufman), then contemporary opera is usually not far behind. That is, unless it's Kevin Puts' and Mark Campbell's prize-winning SILENT NIGHT, which actually opened on Saturday night (this past weekend) at Atlanta's Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center, in a moving new production by the company's General and Artistic Director Tomer Zvulun that doesn't go for the heart strings but gets there anyway.

Teenage Riot: Out of the Box Brings the LIZZIE BORDEN murder to the Stage

A Letter to My Nephew, MacArthur Genius Award and National Medal of Arts choreographer Bill T. Jones's latest work, makes its U.S. premiere at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) Boston. Opening November 4, Hart House Theatre is pleased to present William Shakespeare's widely adored battle of the sexes, Much Ado About Nothing. Directed by recent graduate of the National Theatre School, Carly Chamberlain, and starring a cast of trained, young performers, Much Ado About Nothing promises to deliver classic theatre with a youthful flair and the high calibre production style for which Hart House Theatre is known.

Best In Drag Show - the fabulous and long-running annual fundraiser for Aid For AIDS, a program of Alliance for Healing and Housing - has announced that Emmy and Grammy Award winner Kathy Griffin will open this year's festivities. The celebrity judging panel will include Academy Award nominee Melanie Griffith, Kathy Kinney ("The Drew Carey Show") and Rutina Wesley(OWN's "Queen Sugar"). Additional celebrity judges will be announced soon. Best in Drag Show will be held on October 2, 2016 at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. The pre-show party begins at 5:30pm and curtain is at 7:00pm.

The Keegan Theatre opens its 20th season with the regional premiere of Theresa Rebeck's What We're Up Against, a scathing, ferocious comedy about sexism in the workplace. Set in ahighly competitive architecture firm, What We're Up Against takes an explosive look at the complicated battle of the sexes and one woman's response when she tires of slamming into the glass ceiling.

Polarity Ensemble Theatre presents William Shakespeare's tragedy, Macbeth. Adapted and directed by artistic director Richard Engling, Macbeth runs at the Greenhouse Theater Center, 2257 N. Lincoln Avenue in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago, IL, today, January 30 through March 2, 2014. Press opening is Saturday, February 1 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are currently on sale.

What fun are the action filled battle scenes with their epic swashbuckling and wonderfully choreographed crew of strong men making their way across the stage to proudly proclaim their identities as pirates; with what grace do the dainty young ladies flit about and admire those same pirates who come and take them away with promises of marriage, almost too fantastical a concept to ever really work. How wonderful it is to watch two lovers remain together through the difficulties of a leap year birthday. Simply put, the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players' production of the infamous The Pirates of Penzance is one of the most remarkable shows a theatergoer will see before the near year rolls in.

The Coralville Center for the Performing Arts will present Joss Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing tonight, October 18th at 8 PM & midnight.
