Birdland Jazz Club has announced its September 2014 schedule, featuring Ralph Alessi Baida Quartet, Marilyn Maye, Coltrane Revisited, Bud Powell Birthday Celebration, Barbara Carroll, Christian McBride Trio, Jane Monheit, Jim Caruso's Cast Party, and more!

Tickets go on sale today, August 13, for Opera Philadelphia's 40th Anniversary Season, featuring a stellar cast of international opera stars in five new productions at the Academy of Music and the Perelman Theater.

The John Marshall Jazz Quintet will fill Abingdon's June Havoc Theatre (312 West 36th Street) with the sound of Jazz for a one-night-only concert on Sunday, August 17 at 7pm. Set to join trumpeter John Marshall are Grant Stewart on saxophone, Tardo Hammer on keyboard, David Wong on bass and Jimmy Wormworth on drums.

There's a torch being passed at the long running, and well-loved radio program Jazz After Hours, created by Jim Wilke 30 years ago in Seattle. The man picking up the torch this fall is Jeff Hanley, also a well-known name in the Seattle, Bay Area, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara radio markets. Jazz After Hours airs twice weekly on more than 60 Public Radio International station.

12 Miles North today announced the lineup for its 8th Annual Take Me to the River Festival Music and Arts Festival, which will comprise 21 live concerts, two dance performances, over a dozen local food and beverage trucks, new art installations, and a plethora of fun, workshops and outdoor children's activities, September 6th 12:00 - 10:00pm. Yesterday, Charlie Haden passed away at 76. He was one of the most respected bassists and jazz composers today. His legendary, groundbreaking work with Ornette Coleman in the 60's is just one highlight of this three-time Grammy winner's illustrious career.
