NEA Confirms It Did Not Fund The Public's Trump-Themed JULIUS CAESAR

Following news that two major sponsors, Delta Air Lines and Bank of America, had pulled financial support for The Public Theater in response to their Donald Trump-themed Shakespeare in the Park production of JULIUS CAESAR, the National Endowment for the Arts has clarified in a statement that none of its funds have been used to support the show.

On Sunday night, Delta Air Lines announced that they were ending their four-year-old sponsorship agreement with the Public Theater over their current Shakespeare in the Park production of JULIUS CAESAR. The play, which is set to open at Central Park's Delacorte Theatre on Monday, depicts the Roman dictator in a way that calls to mind President Donald Trump.

Daniel L. Doctoroff, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Alex Poots, Founding Artistic Director and CEO of New York's new center for artistic invention, The Shed, today announced an extraordinary lead gift from Bloomberg Philanthropies of $75 million toward the capital campaign for the new institution. Currently under construction on Manhattan's west side, where the High Line meets Hudson Yards, The Shed is scheduled to open to the public in spring 2019.

According to the New York Times, the new arts center known as the Shed that is being built in Hudson Yards has received $75 million from Michael Bloomberg. He had previously made a $15 million contribution in 2012, which until now was undisclosed, and he added $60 million to that on Wednesday.

The Public Theater is gearing up for its 2017 Free Shakespeare in the Park season, beginning Tuesday, May 23 at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, continuing a 55-year tradition of free theater in Central Park. The rarely seen Julius Caesar, directed by The Public's Artistic Director Oskar Eustis, begins previews Tuesday, May 23 and runs through Sunday, June 18 with an official press opening on Monday, June 12. Cast of FALSETTOS Revival Excited To Reunite During Tonys Season

The cast of FALSETTOS on Broadway are excited to reunite during Tonys season following nominations this morning for Stephanie J. Block, Christian Borle, Andrew Rannells, and Brandon Uranowitz. The production is set to be broadcast on Live from Lincoln Centre later this year on PBS.
