Bring your loved ones for a heart-warming celebration of Americana, playing at the Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre for 16 performances, from December 16 - 28. This winter, Canadian Stage remounts the phenomenally popular Venus in Fur for a third and final run. Providing an alternative to traditional holiday theatre offerings, 'the other nutcracker' is back for 13 shows only Dec. 18 to 28 at the intimate Berkeley Street Theatre (26 Berkeley St.). Rick Miller and Carly Street reprise their roles in this Dora Award-nominated production, with direction by Jennifer Tarver. Venus in Fur returns to Toronto fresh off another successful run at Montreal's Centaur Theatre Company, where it was hailed as 'a rare perfect storm of brilliant script, inspired direction and powerful acting' (Montreal Gazette). David Mirvish and National Artists Management Company have just announced that they will present the Broadway premiere of The Heart of Robin Hood, written by David Farr, featuring original music performed on-stage by Parsonsfieldand directed by acclaimed Icelandic theatrical artist Gísli Örn Gardarsson. The production will open on Broadway on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at the Marquis Theatre (1535 Broadway). Previews begin on Tuesday, March 10, 2015. As BroadwayWorld reported last month, Stephen Sondheim recently announced at the New Yorker Festival that he is working on something new. Confirming previously reported rumors, the new project will be a collaboration between Sondheim and contemporary American playwright David Ives. The project, whose title was not announced, will be based on two classic films by Spanish filmmaker Luis Buñuel. The two separate films will be the basis for one complete story which the characters will exist in seamlessly. The first half will be based on The 1972 film 'The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie' and the second half will be based on the 1962 film 'The Exterminating Angel.'
