Avant-rock singer-songwriter/producer KRISTEENYOUNG has always done things her own way, including self-designing all of her stage costumes, and now she invites listeners to come along on her most experimental and emotional journey yet with the release of her ninth album The SubSet outTODAY (September 4, 2019). Her two touchstones for the making The SubSet are opera and beatnik, but as Kristeen explains, 'kinda sideways and distorted.' 'The album features her energetic blends of hard-hitting instrumentals, operatic vocals, and raw, incendiary lyrics which gives her music a theatrical flair and helps elevate its urgency.

As anticipation builds for the star-studded second annual 'ABOVE GROUND' benefit concert, Dave Navarro (Jane's Addiction) and Billy Morrison (Billy Idol) are excited to announce that Jack Black and Ministry's Al Jourgensen have joined the bill for the Monday, September 16 benefit at The Fonda Theatre in Hollywood. Additional new guests also include Brad Wilk (Prophets of Rage), Carmine Rojas (David Bowie), Chris Chaney (Jane's Addiction), Franky Perez (Deadland Ritual), Twiggy, Dave Kushner (Velvet Revolver), Mixi Demner (Stitched Up Heart), Jason Christopher, Erik Eldenius &Paul Trudeau (Billy Idol), Donovan Leitch and Julie Mintz. The immersive evening of art and music will celebrate the vinyl album as an art form, and at the same time raise awareness and funds for the treatment of mental health, with the profits being donated to MusiCares®, a charity of the Recording Academy that was established to safeguard the health and well-being of all music people.
Queer|Art|Film's Fall 2019 Season Announced At IFC Center

Queer|Art, New York City's home for the creative and professional development of LGBTQ+ artists, is pleased to announce a special Fall season of Queer|Art|Film at IFC Center (323 Sixth Avenue at West 3rd St.), September 16-December 2. Organized by guest curators Vivian Crockett, Camilo Godoy, and Carlos Mottaa?"the season, titled Chicas y Fantasmas, explores the shells we inhabit to move through the world. Presented by four contemporary Latinx artists, the season assembles a fierce ensemble of showgirls, cyborgs, glam rockers, and two Chicana teens who defy gendered expectations, ableist norms, and society's limitations to actualize their own self-constructed identities and shape a vision of the world in which they want to live. A full itinerary follows. All screenings begin at 8pm.

Director Ivo van Hove is set to work on a stage adaptation of Stephen King's The Shining, according to Forbes. Simon Stephens has been working on the script and it is believed that the play will premiere in London's West End before heading to Broadway.

Sao Paulo's artistic scene gets a new stage this week. Unimed Theater comes with the promise of becoming a space of excellence for culture in the city. Located in one of the most central points of Sao Paulo, on the corner of Rua Augusta and Alameda Santos, just one block from Paulista Avenue, the architectural project bears the signature of architect Isay Weinfeld. Producers Monique Gardenberg and Jeffrey Neale are responsible for curating the show, which opens August 22 with David Bowie's Lazarus, directed by Felipe Hirsch.

Last October, composer Patrick Grant released brand new recordings of pivotal works from his catalog in an album called 'Fields Amaze and other sTRANGE music.' In recent years Grant has garnered much praise and attention for his creating the project Tilted Axes: Music for Mobile Electric Guitars, so the release of 'Fields Amaze...' was a way to (re)introduce listeners to the large body of work he has created for concert, dance, and theater.
