Theater for the New City Extends SKYBOX Through December 9

A one-week extension has been added for 'Skybox,' a new comedy by Walt Stepp and directed by Lissa Moira. The play's premiere run was originally scheduled for November 8 to December 2, 2012. After Hurricane Sandy struck, the opening was postponed to November 15 to accommodate production delays. Now the closing has been extended through December 9 to make up for lost performances. So the new production dates are November 15 to December 9 and critics are invited to all performances. (more...)

Theater for the New City was originally scheduled to present the premiere run of 'Skybox' November 8 to December 2 in its Cino Theater. Due to production delays caused by Hurricane Sandy, the show now opens tonight, November 15 (one week later) and runs through December 2. Critics are invited on or after tonight, November 15. FREUD'S LAST SESSION Ends Sunday in Chicago; L.A. Run Begins 1/11

The Chicago production of FREUD'S LAST SESSION, New York's long-running hit play by Mark St. Germain, will end its run this Sunday, November 11th at the Mercury Theatre. Starring Mike Nussbaum and Coburn Goss, FREUD'S LAST SESSION was extended several times by popular demand after opening on March 26th to unanimous rave reviews. Next up for the international hit play will be this winter's Los Angeles run, starring Judd Hirsch as Sigmund Freud and Tom Cavanagh as C. S. Lewis under the direction of Tyler Marchant, who helmed the New York and Chicago productions. Presented by The Broad Stage and CRC Productions, FREUD'S LAST SESSION will begin performances January 11th for a strictly limited engagement through February 10th at The Broad Stage in Santa Monica. Theater for the New City Presents Walt Stepp's SKYBOX, 11/8-12/2

If 'Adam's Rib' and 'Moneyball' mated and begat a play, it might be 'Skybox,' a comedy of class warfare and the battle of the sexes that is set in the luxury box of a major league baseball park. The play, written by Walt Stepp and directed by Lissa Moira, is the successor to their collaboration on 'Siren's Heart: Norma Jean and Marilyn in Purgatory,' a play by Stepp which started at Theater for the New City and is now running Off-Broadway at the Actors Temple Theatre. Theater for the New City will present 'Skybox' November 8 to December 2 in its Cino Theater. (more...)

Southport, dressed as the father of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud. It's time to brush the dust off your old tweed jacket, find your round spectacles and don a white beard. Bring a cigar! The producers of A Christmas Story, The Musical will present the November 5 -December 30 Broadway engagement at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Following a nationwide search, Johnny Rabe will don Ralphie's trademark spectacles. John Bolton (Spamalot, Contact, Titanic, "Boardwalk Empire," "Gossip Girl') will reprise his acclaimed performance as The Old Man from the 2011 National Tour. Joining Bolton will be Tony Award nominee Erin Dilly (Nice Work if You Can Get It, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) as Mother, Zac Ballard (Oliver! at Irish Repertory Theatre) as little brother Randy, Caroline O'Connor (Chicago, Moulin Rouge) as school teacher Miss Shields, and Eddie Korbich (The Little Mermaid, The Drowsy Chaperone, Wicked) as Santa Claus. All join previously announced Dan Lauria (Broadway's Lombardi, TV's "Sullivan & Son" and "The Wonder Years") as Jean Shepherd.
