Now that New Year's Eve celebrations are behind us, my favorite time of the theatre year is upon us. In late winter and early spring, theaters all around Houston start unveiling their upcoming seasons, in hopes of keeping current season subscribers and gaining new ones. Kicking off this annual season of unveiling is Gexa Energy's Broadway at the Hobby Center 2014-2015 Season announcement.
Ann Hampton Callaway to Join SF Gay Men's Chorus for LUSTER: AN AMERICAN SONGBOOK, 3/25-26

Today, San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus (SFGMC) Artistic Director, Dr. Timothy Seelig, announced the program for LUSTER: AN AMERICAN SONGBOOK at Davies Symphony Hall (201 Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco), on Tuesday, March 25 and Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at 8 p.m. A celebration of 20th Century American music, LUSTER will feature the 300 men of the chorus and special guest Ann Hampton Callaway singing timeless classics from George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Duke Ellington and Irving Berlin. The performance will also include the world premiere of 'Tyler's Suite,' a multi-movement work created by top American composers of this century, presented in collaboration with the Tyler Clementi Foundation (TCF). Passionate about the story of Tyler Clementi, composer Stephen Schwartz selected John Bucchino, Ann Hampton Callaway, Craig Carnelia, John Corigliano, Nolan Gasser, Jake Heggie, Lance Horne, and Pamela Stewart to join him as they each created a movement for 'Tyler's Suite.' Theatre at St. Clement's will host the World Premiere of The Clearing, written by Jake Jeppson (Jerome Fellowship recipient) and directed by Josh Hecht (Drama Desk Award winner for Christine Jorgensen Reveals). The Clearing runs Off-Broadway from tonight, January 15 - February 9, 2014. Previews begin tonight, January 15 for a January 19 opening. Megan Hilty lends her powerhouse vocals to the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra at Music Hall on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, January 24-26, 2014 with a program consisting of Broadway favorites, and songs from Ms. Hilty's new album. The star of the NBC hit television series Smash and Sean Saves the World, and Pops conductor, John Morris Russell, team up for an unforgettable evening of music and excitement. Ms. Hilty made her Pops debut in 2009, stepping in at a moment's notice for an ailing Kristin Chenoweth. Audiences were blown away and her return has been eagerly anticipated ever since.

Never 'Too Much of a Good Thing,' The Alden in McLean has declared January 2014 'Shakespeare Month' and has pulled together a month-long celebration of the Bard which will include films, a discussion with local experts and two performances by the acclaimed American Shakespeare Center on Tour. The Dallas Opera has announced that, through the generosity of The Titus Family, a brand-new recital series has been created to showcase well-established singers in programs dedicated to preserving the fine art of “art song.” The series launch will take place tonight, January 4, 2014 in Dallas City Performance Hall (2520 Flora Street, Dallas) at 7:30 p.m.
