CBS 2's Dana Tyler hosts 'Eye on the Tony Awards,' a half-hour special taking a look at the Broadway shows nominated for the annual Tony Awards. This special will air on CBS 2 Saturday, June 12, 2010, at 7:30PM. The show focuses on this year's best new musicals and plays, newly revived productions, and interviews with world renowned actors such as Denzel Washington (Fences) and Catherine Zeta-Jones (A Little Night Music).

Candle Goes Out in BEHANDING Final Show

In Sunday night's closing performance of A BEHANDING IN SPOKANE, Martin McDonagh's new play starring Christopher Walken, a burning candle failed to stay lit, the New York Post reports. In the play, Walken's character covers characters Toby and Marilyn (played by Anthony Mackie and Zoe Kazan, respectively) in gasoline and leaves them in a room with a candle burning in a can of petrol. However, at Sunday's performance, the flame went out. The problem was soon fixed by a stagehand, for whom the audience applauded enthusiastically, the Post reports. The event was widely discussed at the play's closing party, held at the restaurant Gansevort 69.
Playwright Kwame Kwei-Armah Pens Laurie Cunningham Biopic

According to Deadline.com Award winning playwright Kwame Kwei-Armah is working on a script for a biopic about 1970s soccer star Laurie Cunningham. The film is entitled 'Black Flash.' Cunningham was the first English player to join Real Madrid, the most successful soccer team from Spain. Cunningham was also the first black player to represent England at any level (under 21), and the first to represent the full England side in a competitive match, although Viv Anderson had appeared in a friendly before him to be recognised as the nation's first black full international.

A BEHANDING IN SPOKANE starring Academy Award-winner Christopher Walken, who received Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle nominations for his role; Sam Rockwell, Anthony Mackie and Zoe Kazan will play its final performance today A BEHANDING IN SPOKANE is playing on Broadway at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre (236 West 45th Street). Directed by John Crowley, the play opened March 4 and must close Sunday, June 6 after playing a strict 16-week engagement.

Shankman Confirms: 'Hairspray 2' Film is 'Dropped'

IMBD news is reporting that Hairspray 2, a sequel to the 2007 Hairspray film starring Nikki Blonsky, Zac Efron, John Travolta and Michelle Pfieffer, has been canned. Hairspray composer/producer Marc Shaiman was supposed to team with John Waters on the project, which had had a tentative release date of July 2010 in the early stages of it's planning. The story was going to follow Tracy Turnblad (played by Nikki Blonsky in the first installment) and her pals as they navigate the 'next era of music,' the late '60s.
