CBS 2's Dana Tyler hosts 'Eye on the Tony Awards,' a half-hour special taking a look at the Broadway shows nominated for the annual Tony Awards. In Sunday night's closing performance of A BEHANDING IN SPOKANE, Martin McDonagh's new play starring Christopher Walken, a burning candle failed to stay lit, the New York Post reports. In the play, Walken's character covers characters Toby and Marilyn (played by Anthony Mackie and Zoe Kazan, respectively) in gasoline and leaves them in a room with a candle burning in a can of petrol. However, at Sunday's performance, the flame went out. The problem was soon fixed by a stagehand, for whom the audience applauded enthusiastically, the Post reports. The event was widely discussed at the play's closing party, held at the restaurant Gansevort 69.

According to Deadline.com Award winning playwright Kwame Kwei-Armah is working on a script for a biopic about 1970s soccer star Laurie Cunningham. The film is entitled 'Black Flash.' Cunningham was the first English player to join Real Madrid, the most successful soccer team from Spain. Cunningham was also the first black player to represent England at any level (under 21), and the first to represent the full England side in a competitive match, although Viv Anderson had appeared in a friendly before him to be recognised as the nation's first black full international.

It is nearly impossible to dismiss the fact that Broadway experienced a rather lackluster year, star-studded shows or not, as can easily be seen by the list of Tony nominations. When musicals like Memphis and Million Dollar Quartet are able to snag nods for best musical, and the dreaded Addams Family can be listed as having one of the best original scores, it's certain that the creative juices flowing around Times Square were strained this past season...

Well my lovelies, we are now only days away from the 2010 Tonys. As you know from reading my last few columns and my frequent excited tweets, the Awards have been on my mind for weeks. I'm getting exponentially more excited as the day grows closer; it seems like now is the time to post my analysis of the nominees - including my picks for who should, and who will, win big this year.

IMBD news is reporting that Hairspray 2, a sequel to the 2007 Hairspray film starring Nikki Blonsky, Zac Efron, John Travolta and Michelle Pfieffer, has been canned. Hairspray composer/producer Marc Shaiman was supposed to team with John Waters on the project, which had had a tentative release date of July 2010 in the early stages of it's planning. The story was going to follow Tracy Turnblad (played by Nikki Blonsky in the first installment) and her pals as they navigate the 'next era of music,' the late '60s.
